Definitely Disney's fault. Sometimes parents make bad decisions but this isn't the case. The beach had chairs. If if the child wasn't in the water but just near the edge, this would have happened. What always gets me is when these animal right aholes always defend the animal. People care more about animals then there fellow human beings until they have kids. Then the tune changes. You can be the best parent in the world and your kid can get away from you for a second. This is a tragedy and like other events not the parents fault.

Agreed. Several years ago the wife and I visited the Everglades at the north Shark Valley entrance. There's a gravel road/trail parallel to a canal with water/swamp on both sides that people walk and bicycle. Mama gators had just finished nesting and there were tons of cute little baby gators all along the road. Idiot tourists were getting within a few feet of the nests to get pictures even having their children posing with them. Though she may not have been visible, you know mama was nearby keeping an eye on her young. I couldn't believe it. You really can't fix stupid.

The TV news is saying that they have already pulled four gators out of the lake since the recovery effort began. Apparently none are the suspect gator. Sounds like there are a lot of gators in that lake and it's a pretty big lake.

IMO, Disney is at fault 100% here:

    a) you don't create a sandy beach area on a resort without any intentions of people wading into/swimming in the water
    b) if you are going to create a sandy beach area, you ensure that no gators are ever in that body of water (whatever means necessary to prevent them from entering

For a giant well run entity like Disney is, this situation makes no sense how they have let this slip through there quality control standards. Just seems very strange and quite sad that this has happened.

That's crazy stuff, to get near the baby gators is asking for it

For sure. Considering how all of Disney is fake anyway you would think they wouldn't keep this area so real. They could have easily set up a fence of sorts a little ways out in the water to keep any gators from the beach and shallow water there.

Either way, it is very tragic!! I guess, considering I grew up in FL, it becomes second nature knowing gators can be in ANY body of water and the dangers. Which never stopped us as kids from swimming in the lakes. I guess you can say I am just lucky. But a family from Nebraska isn't going to know this or expect this while staying at, supposedly the happiest place on earth.

Sorry guys if my original post offended anyone or came off as heartless!

it's nearly impossible to keep track of if there are any gators in the area- it's huge and the water's murky. IMO this area should just be enclosed by a much closer fence, but then that would take away from the "natural feel" of the enclosure so no point there. They'll probably end up closing this feature for good after this is over.
    Freaking Florida man.

Z, don't you fret brah. For focks sake, it's a motionless body of fresh water in a sub-tropical climate...some people just don't logic. And I'm not saying it's not Walt's fault, I'm just saying my cracker ass would not be in that water.

I cannot imagine being the father of this child. Absolutely heartbreaking.

Disney is, rightfully so, going to be paying big bucks to keep this from going to trial. I cannot understand how they don't have signs up warning of gators. I did a quick search and believe they permit various boating activities as well (tubing, water skiing and wake boarding). Really unbelievable.

My take on Florida has always been and always will be, that ALL lakes therein have gators. In addition, did they not recently find a cluster of Nile crocodiles as well?? I think it would be fair to say the crocs are "illegal immigrants", no?

You are actually taught when you live there, gators can reside in ANY body of water. I used to see baby gators in the small (2 foot wide and maybe a foot deep) ditch next to the 7-Eleven near my house. It was at a major intersection.

They just pulled a dead 11 foot gator out of a storm drain where he was clogging it up the other day

Fock gators. I respect sharks, and will bail if its of some size and either I can't ID it of if I do ID it and it's a bull or tiger. Otherwise I figure its not interested in me.

But gators man. I figure every one of them 100% wants to take a bite outta my arse. My brother took me fishing once in his lil jon boat in Sea Pines in HHI, f'ing gators everywhere. He's like, "no big deal", even started chasing some around in the boat. That thing was way too small and too close to the water for my comfort. I'm sure he was doing it to just be a ****.

Sounds like some area 51 type stuff but I don't doubt Disney, the ruler of the free world, could do it.
