Been to SA 3 times for over a month each time. Wife's family lives in Capetown. Which is nice..Surfed around Cape Penninsula on Atlantic and Indian sides (big difference in water temps about a 15min drive apart) Kommetjie to Muizenberg.. Anyway, the sea is VERY active in general there with stuff coming out of the water ALL the time. Sailfish that look like shark fins, dolphins ripping through waves, baitfish in a big pool around your legs one minute, then gone the next.. Seals jumping 6 feet out of the water just outside of the line-up. Why? Hmmmm.. Sharkwatch in place at most surfing beaches. It's just a totally different mind-f--k.. I have stayed in and surfed St. Francis, surfed the beach, the point and went to J-Bay although the winds were all wrong. Waves are amazing, and there is a palpable sense of sharkiness in most places. Also, that classic murk can't see your toes thing..I've seen a few whitey fins and it scared the crap out of me. Most insane spot was Buffels bay.., I was scared from the second I stepped off the sand..Should have trusted my instincts. And to top it all off, sorry for going on,, there is NO safety net there. No 911 with fully trained personnel to help, if your car breaks down, trouble.. You get hurt.. Big trouble.. So while Medina has a point, and the more you think about it,, the worse. The set-up at Jbay is just too good to pass up.

Any one who has watched Medina surf Chopes, Cloudbreak, Pipe, big Hossegor knows he is not a wimp, p**sy or any of the other things ya'll call him. God knows he has more style than Wilko... all-in-all he seems like a humble guy who is probably the best surfer in the world right now.

As far as the sharks in SA... I can't imagine seeing what happened to Mick in person. I think I would be hesitant to surf the spot too. That said, if given a chance, I would love to catch just one J-Bay wave at the point and make it through Supertubes

I'm not a Medina hater, but I would say that 99% of surfers polled would say that Wilko has far more style than Medina.
And I would not describe him as humble either. I don't know him personally, but that is not how he comes off.

Talk to Slater--maybe he can manufacture you a fake j-bay wave machine, minus sharks.
For a mere 2-3 million bucks, without sharks. . Worth it??
    With sharks-- 5 million!!

BTW, as for Medina, he is known for doing high long airs. That being so, he is not a surfer, but an aerialist. So he is not even in the water; what is he worried about??

Man... I don't know. I think Wilko has the worst style of any surfer I've seen. I also haven't heard many say that Medina has bad style... he is way better than the other Brazilians. ADS, Pupo, etc. are hard to watch. I'm not saying Medina is Parko, but he's way better than Wilko.

Best surfer in the world and humble, lmfao! The exact opposite. No flow or style, just airs.

There is no way you surf or watch surfing if you think he is only airs... he's won Cloudbreak twice, Pipe, etc. Those are not air waves... and since you obviously don't watch surfing... here ya go... I wish I could fine a better video of the second one... I remember watching it live and going nuts:

I find it difficult to criticize ANY pro surfer when it comes to style, flow, skill, etc., it's just ridiculous to do if you yourself are just an average Joe. Now, if you feel you're better than any of them on tour, go ahead and criticize away, but let's see those videos of you ripping to back up the criticism.

This isn't directed at any one person, just a general statement to those who like to criticize pros. Again, I don't follow pro surfing very much, but I respect their talent and realize i'm nowhere near the same level. Even the worst guy on tour blows me away in the water, and I suspect they blow everybody else way on this forum too.

Now if you don't like their personality or how they claim waves or act like a jerk then that's one thing, but even still, unless you know them personally, you're probably wrong about them. It's hard to really know what someone is like through the TV or computer screen.

I think the the worst aspect of his style is his front side barrel riding. It's funny because he's won Fiji twice and Tahiti.
But I think his overall style gets a bad rep just because he's from Brazil. It's not the best, but it's not bad.
And he doesn't come off as humble, but it may have lot to do with the language barrier. And just the Brazzo hate. He is a fierce competitor (Kelly says the best) and people hate on him for it.

Agree and disagree... Every dude on tour is infinitely better, with more stylee, than 99.9999999% of surfers on Earth... But that doesn't mean a person watching from home can't feel one guys style is way better than another's. It's easy to watch Kelly and Adriano and see that Kelly has far more style.

It's the same as any sport. Take MMA for instance since you're a fan... That's like saying you can critique a fighter since every dude in the UFC will whip any normal dudes a$$.

I see your point. I think what i'm getting at is, to say someone's style is flat out garbage or someone doesn't have any style or that they suck etc. is crazy talk. Now, if you compare them to another pro and say one guy's style looks better than the other, that's different to me, and acceptable. I can say that Kelly's style is better than Medina, but I would never say Medina sucks or doesn't have style at all. Just doesn't compute to me, he's a world champ for f*ck sakes. Make sense?

Meh....Medina sucks, Slater sucks, they all suck. I could beat them all in the first 3 waves, first heat.
And besides....I am better looking than them, charming, and chicks dig me way better than those losers.......
