I figure that come Saturday and Sunday, all the kooks/wannabes will be rejected trying to paddle out. It's Friday and late Sunday that'll be the most crowded. Tip, avoid c-street and Crystal pier, they're gonna be zoos. heck, they're already zoos when it's knee high!

It sucks this swell has to come on the weekend, but like you said, Saturday and Sunday will hopefullly be big enough to scare away the weekend warriors and UNCW transplants.

as a semi-pro uncw transplant from virginia beach, i resent that. category 4? sick, im getting flashbacks from costa/nica. its funny how people are starting to talk ****, about how it's going to be so massive and they're the only ones that are going to be able to make it out. im going spray paint my user name on the bottom of my board, longsleeve, ass of my boardshorts, and tatoo it in my back so that everyone can see how hard i rip while you all are sitting on the beach crying bc you couldnt make it out. damn, im such a sick surfer and everyone here sucks. look for me on the surfline feature for obx getting shacked silly on a pride step up with red arrows...that or one of the other 20 boards that dave has shaped for me because im so freaking sick. wow, you all are going to be super jealous because i rip so hard.

shut up. honestly, big surf isnt hard to paddle out into. i just hope that they dont close the beach like they have in SC before.

I actually thought it was pretty funny.

As for getting tangled up with the wannabes from Va Bch - I would rather tangle with them, than the d-bags that roll up on WB.

And, as for "weekenders" being scared - they will be...except they will still clog the line-up. During Ernesto, there were 400 heads in the line-up between the jetty and Crystal and only about 30 or 40 riding. So, if you are ready to charge the fatties, you will get your pick, but you will have to dodge a little traffic.

I wonder if when someone breaks their board and it washes up I can steal their tail and get a free fin set or if their leash breaks I could just take their board. Hahahahahaaha

If a board broke, the tail would stay attached to the surfer via leash. The most you would get is a possible nose guard that some people stick on their boards.

understandibly there a lot of beaches that cant hold these waves... my question is, what will the waves be like at those beaches? will it just be flat? or will the beaches just hold what they can? an informational response would be nice, smart@sses need not reply

The admin. summed it up good in a short explanation. Think large and do your homework. I for one am taking a bit of an exploration with this one, and hope my thought process and experience of the area pays off. We'll see, no one can really have a definitive answer for this one at all, b/c of the very rare size and conditions they are expecting. Some models are decreasing the size quite a bit. Might sound cheesy, but think as if you were a wave from a cat 4 storm making your way to shore.. (wide and size and at what rate the wave is moving) and dip into your geographical intellect or phsyics side of this.

wrightsville beach is probably the only place around here that can hold surf that size. i wouldnt even bother checking other places, they're just going to be complete closeouts with no shoulders. last few big swells i was there, it did that, and the times that it didnt, it was flat...i just wasted my time driving down there. like i said, if you have a pair either head north or go to wrightsville, or carrot island.

Beaches that can't handle the swell (eg pretty much every beacbreak around) will just be a cauldron of white water and rip tides if the swell actually gets that big. There will be waves, they will just be extremely difficult to navigate and the lineup will be constantly shifting. Its still Wednesday though, no one knows whats gonna happen, it could easily change. 11 feet at 15 seconds or so is still pretty intriguing. I'm practicing holding my breath. Dammit i finally have fell for the hype and have begun to feed into it. Well i guess it was inevitable. Fine then. I am the real kelly slater and I am the only one who is gonna make it out and everyone else is a kook.

    I'm canceling my cable TV...

Reading strings like this every now and again is about all the entertainment one needs. You get drama. Action. Virgins. Mafia. Self proclaimed VIPs. Etc.

Hell, it's almost as much fun as this upcoming swell's gonna be. Mmmmmmmmmaybe not.

I live in CB myself near hamlet. I have only been here for a year and a half and have never seen swell this large. I am definitely curious whether or not it will handle this swell. My gut says no way, it takes a really great beachbreak to handle triple overhead (think Black's in San Diego or Puerto).
