Hi, I am looking to buy a longboard but have no idea about longboards. I shortboard any chance I get and when its too small, I mess around on a foamie. I am 5'10ish and weigh 130. I am good surfer and looking for some advice about a good starter board. I will be surfing the East Coast and mostly in conditions waist high and smaller. What length is good for turns but also can nose ride? is 8ft too small? I have been looking at this 9'1 here: http://www.surfindustries.com/shop/us/surf/longboards/modern-blackbird-longboard/ any advice? and company suggestions that are good priced
http://www.surfindustries.com/shop/us/surf/longboards/walden-magic-model-x2-longboard/ you need something like this dude.
i can sell you my 8' torq for $500, will throw in a propre leash and some nice fins (i sanded them down around the edges myself). no joke though, sometime i think i can nose ride it..... have hang-fived for sure, havent hang tenned yet. 1-2-3' slop is home, you know?
I am gonna ask around with some local shapers, and I have ridden a couple torq boards before, they are fun but I want something a little longer but thanks
Man, I gotta drop a wicked crap right now but I'm holding back........................................................................... continue please
I don't agree with this cat much but this is truth. Go local and get a 9'6" to get the real effect. I have this and it's awesome.
You need to stop looking at that cheap overseas factory made crap. If your budget for a longboard is $500 range then start looking at a good to excellent condition used longboard made by an actual surfboard shaper who knows what they are doing, as opposed to a computer generated longboard glassed as quickly as possible with sun cure or cheap poly resin with additives to speed up everything at YOUR expense, because if you buy this board you don't care. There are dozens of east coast shapers who make longboards that will perform better than that junk and actually hold their value over the years.
