I have a question similar: (me being 5'7 & 130 lbs) Would my 5'11 X 19.25 X 2.5 handle the drop on anything up to d-oh (i'm not going out if t-oh sets show up - gun or not). It has a baby swallow and is a thruster. Since it's thicker and wider than a regular shortboard it paddles faster so wouldn't that help? Like what rightdude said, I'm not concerned about the paddle, I can surf all from 7:30 - 4:30 and my arms feel fine, it's just the drop. plus, if all possible, I'm saving my money for a new wetsuit, not a step-up.
I dunno man, I would personally recommend a 5'4 or 5'6 mini velo simmons for 10 to 12 foot face... Mine... Biggest I've had this out in was 2 to 3 foot overhead (8 to 10') but it was mushy surf.
i can paddle reallllly fast even on my 6'2 so i will be taking that out first then if it doesnt work out then i will be getting my dads 6'8 just take a few paddles down the face of the wave
Dudeyour fine. I'm same height n weight n I'm riding 5'10 18 2. Ur board sounds like my winter board. Just remember to take that one extra paddle
20k views on this thread alone over the past few days. and it is a legit thread, not a "I hate everyone who is not like me thread". stoked.
So I am of the opinion that most of Delmarva will not be able to handle the long period swell that this cane is going to send our way. Friday, maybe Saturday morning, and Monday look to be surfable, but the bulk of the weekend should be out of control for most people. Hence I am thinking outside of the box about where to look for waves. Anybody surf inside of the Delaware Bay? I used to surf in Cape May quite a bit and I am thinking about Sunset beach and north to the ferry. Would a swell this big wrap? Maybe, might be worth a look. When I was in college I surfed some big tropical swells in Jersey around '99-01 and saw waves breaking between OCNJ and Ventnor (or whatever you call the next island up), well inside of the wide inlet there. If I had a ski I would think about it, but not without some backup; don't want to get sucked out to sea.
Love it! rock that board on anything, wetsuit too. I wear even wear it down in the Dominican towards dusk when there's a lil chill in the air
it would be interesting to see if this swell wraps into the jetties on the bay by the ferry, on the south and north sides (south side being sunset beach and the jetties up there). i've seen the delaware bay become rideable a couple times on the north side.. take pics if it's breaking!
You're talking about the Great Egg Harbor Inlet between Ocean City and Absecon Island. I'm always checking out the breaks in the inlet, wondering if anyone's ever tried towing into them. Never seen anyone out there, but it gets pretty treacherous out there even without huge swell. @capesurfer: keep us all safe, brother. I can't wait to touch base with my local guard/sensei tomorrow to get his read on the situation. You guys know the conditions better than any of us. What will I be rocking on the big stuff? Fins and shorts, yo!
