    Discuss among yourselves.

(really just shocked I hadn't seen this thread yet after a 6 week flat spell here in Jerz)

Looked like you guys just had a little run of waves.
Pretty crappy here 1-3 wind slop.

Sun-mon small swell then thurs-fri should be another pulse

By far the worse Summer I have ever seen --our Spring here in NH was very crappy also, as was our winter in terms of waves.
    Sparse, to say the least.....
But, according to Al Gore, we should be getting weekly hurricanes, Cape Cod AND NYC should be underwater, and we should all be drowning......

I'm the type of guy who can get excited about a small wave. I just like surfing. Big or small. But usually summer is small but at least has a few days sprinkled in that are bigger to keep me satisfied. This summer has me pretty depressed. I hadn't seen anything over stomach high. And when that is rare this summer.

I wouldn't say flat spell though. I mean there is waves to surf. I surfed for 3 hours this morning. Jerz and LI are practically surf brothers. I highly doubt it's been flat. Just gotta learn to have fun in the smaller stuff.

Or take up another hobby Or move to somewhere that gets waves OR take a trip to somewhere that gets waves. Small waves bore me to tears, but if you're having fun then have at it.

I've been watching cams all along the east coast everyday all summer. It's a hobby when there's not waves. Btw, Matunuck now has a cam on surfline. About time.

NJ had a few days each month of waves waist to stomach. nh/cape had a few day run about a week ago solid stomach high with occassional chest on cape. The cams on the cape aren't very good, but it looked occasional chest.

RI has literally had nothing. Today was supposed to waist high. It's flat to knee high. It's 4 feet a 7 seconds SSW swell, but it's not getting into RI. It's a lake/knee high. Outer suffolk/montauk has some occasional waist high waves today. This is common for swells to hit outer suffolk, but peter out before they hit RI. Very frustrating to be so close to something rideable, only to die out. This has happened numerous times this summer where outer long island has gotten something waist high and we got skunked with knee high junk. There must be a shoaling area or something in block island sound and waves die out after passing block island.

OP, absolutely without question the worst summer ever in the ocean state.

I guess I'm just appreciative of the waves I've been getting. Small ? yeah but man I'm in the water with no stress and letting the ocean wash away the pains of the day. Even if there is nothing to ride , I appreciate the feel of the ocean and the thoughts that enter your mind while staring off at the horizon and the chance encounters of the passing sea life.
It's spiritual for me I guess? I can only imagine how flat it must be if you don't live near the ocean,

^^^ damn right. Rhode island sail....you realize I'm on LI right? Those thigh to waist high waves is what in talking about when I say small. Maybe YOUR the one who needs to move or take a trip or pick up a new hobby. And the OP is in jerz. "Outer Suffolk had some occasional waist high waves today". Dint pretend like you know what's going on because you looked at some cams. I'm in central/western Suffolk and it was waist high. Not occasional. But every set, waist high. You really trying to tell me what waves are like WHERE I LIVE? Come on now

I'm with BassMon, I've surfed the past 3 days. Nothing special, thigh to waist rideable and a few sections to hack a turn on. Better than nothing especially since the air feels like a wet heated blanket. I've seen summer flat spells where it was literally not even a ripple of ankle high for 6 weeks.

How do I know what you mean by small? This is a thread about flatness so I figured you meant knee high stuff, not waist high. And the guy your pointing to above your post says he likes it when it's flat. It's "spiritual".

Actually I was making the point that LI has waves when RI has none. "http://www.surfline.com/surf-report/terrace-long-island_5148/" Waist to stomach high buddy. I just said occasional because I forgot EXACTLY what it was. I just remember it looked good compared to flat ass rhody. So, yes I do know what the conditions are. There's also a buoy. Sorry I said "occasional" waist high wave instead of consistent waist high so you had to chew my head off. Why are you so angry if you had a great day of surfing?

Yes, you're right I do need to take a trip. How flat it is depends on WHERE YOU'RE LOCATED. I was talking about RI, not long island or nj. I was saying those places had waves, while ri had nothing. Comprende?

I surfed every summer on the East Coast from 1989-2013. The two greatest summers were 1989 and 1995 (with a special mention for 2004). I live in the Northwest now where the situation is reversed- which means we have flat spells for about as long as the East Coast has waves. If I ever move back to the East Coast, I think the only boards I’ll own will be with the in-laws in Cape Town (a super great destination). My advice for the East Coast: ride long boards and check the surf each morning as swell height, period, direction, tide can confound added with the miscalibration of the buoys.

I love small waves so I'm usually the guy that is all hyped on a clean knee to waist high day. In most summers there are plenty of those days if you play the tides and wind right and most sneak under the nose of anyone with more than a 30 minute drive. This summer has been aweful. Even the days that had potential turned into weak gutless mush that Sups and logs were having difficulty riding. I swear I haven't surfing more than 4 sessions in the last montha and a half with not one of them being better than mediocre.

It's been a pretty flat year over all..

Although last week (Thursday/ Friday) we had some waves in jersey. It was maybe chest high, but other then that I can't remember the last time it was bigger.

At least there's not a pile of snow outside and 20 degrees... Although if it where there would probably be waves lol

Rhode island sale. You gave us a run down of what waves are like here. Apparently you enjoy checking cams in other states. So that's why I expected you to know what I meant when I said small.

Relax man. I'm not chewing anyone out. Just saying RI and LI are two diffrent places. No need to move for me homie. I'm having fun in this small stuff. Although I can't wait for the line ups to clear out and real swell to start coming in.

And lastly I my point in quoting you saying occasional waist high was that it was confidently waist high by me. Meaning out east wa likely a bit bigger (which is where you were talking about). Just pointing out that if your not here or there you really can't know what's its like. Not hating, just stating

Well...it's definitely been rideable the last few weeks...nothing over waist high but it is what you make it. This morning...I surfed the spot below on a small little thruster and got a few fun waves/runners. It's small but definitely better than working...I jump in whenever it's rideable...today was rideable (barely).
