I originally had no idea where you were. Of course RI/Eastern LI are two different places. Eastern Li gets all kinds of swell in the summer that many times don't make it to RI for some reason. This is a consistent pattern that I've noticed as I stated in my op. Those marginal summer waist high swells tend to die out in block island sound even on a due south swell. I would also enjoy waist high. Swell looked like summertime fun on the cam in montauk area. Solid consistent waist to stomach. It's just the knee high stuff I can't be bothered with. At this point I'd be jumping for joy if I saw what was on the terrace cam happening out here. It's literally been brutally flat with nothing even waist high for over a month with nothing in the forecast. You guys are lucky you are scoring.
So then, it is agreed. All surfers in the Northeast or New England must move elsewhere. Leave. If you are too young, steal your parents car and just drive away-they will be glad to be rid of you!! Go far, far, far away....and do so for good!! Now beat it!!!!
In my first post I mentioned being on LI. It's no biggie man you must of missed it. Like I said I'm not trying to bust balls. Iv been enjoying the waist high stuff for sure, but I got to say. Without that chest high stuff sprinkled in, it's deffinitly leaving me wishing for more. But I got to be grateful we're at least getting that. This whole year has been pretty slow compared to past years. I remember when shark hunter was talking about how bouys lie. The problem you mention with RI was the general consensus, not bouys lying haha. I'd go crazy if it was literally flat for that long. Come on down to LI for a surf. I'll be heading to RI hopefully if we ever get any solid swell heading our way
I do not know about 6 weeks i was in Buxton the first week in july and surfed 8 days in a row peeling rights at least 3 foot every day and 4 foot the last few days. As far as jersey, no one surfs this beach, but we get it a lot bigger here in the summer. So 5 weeks ago we had one good small day and 3 other ok fun days. The next week had 2 fun small ok days. The last week of july we had 2 small days, one really fun. August 1-7 had the first true swell every day and incoming tide was really pumping early morning and then evening, too. This week was puny but i surfed 3 days and had fun. We have had a lot of worse summers here in the past 40 years. We had at least a dozen pretty fun days of waves in the past five weeks, and it was good. I guess you missed it. I think this proves that you are what is called a total kook. Gotta go. Paddling out evening glass-off.
It's summertime on the EC. Typical. The gap between spring lows and tropical energy is agonizing. Travel. Best hope during this gap is typical Bermuda high SE or SW swell. We were fortunate to have that little low last week. ...and beach break, Buxton picks up more swell than anywhere on the EC so not typical for most other areas. Although certain parts of FL can have consistent fun waves during the gap from sake Bermuda highs.
well if you move somewhere without beach badges and where theres good surf more then 2 months out of the year perhaps your opinion of this summer will change
trev u got it backwards, its only bad 2 months out of the year.july and august.atleast in nj,i could care less I'm just waiting for the fall and winter ...nothing worse than spending 2hrs in traffic to surf knee high mush with 40 other people,il patiently wait til I can drive 10 minutes and have the beach all to myself
I can tell ya one thing, its definitely the hottest summer in a long time.we're in the 90s every single week
Another fun day today, should be fun tomorrow , closing in on two weeks straight of knee - waist and glassy every morning. Nothing epic but it's keeping me in the water.
I can't believe we are all fighting over if it was thigh high or waist high. Can we all just agree that summer sucks ass. Spearfishing rules though. Everywhere has been **** it's summer please people!!
I've surfed many of those days with Mitchell and I can tell you he is better with a camera than with the forecast. Somehow he makes total crap look epic with the magic of a fast shutter speed.
not everywhere has been ****. the PNW has been head high plus with frequent barrels where im at more days then flat since may. Also i was pissed the other day because there was 10 people in the lineup and two weren't regulars. Oh how my standards of crowds have changed.
Two weeks ago at the right spot in the middle of Monmouth County's beaches were some of the best waves I've ever had. Other than that morning, this summer has kind of been a tease, but better than nothing right?
I'm more annoyed with this humidity than the lack of surf, although that sucks too. I figure if I'm gonna be somewhere this hot and humid, I may as well be in Oahu or some tropical destination. Not to mention the waves would be much better too!
