So much for the double to triple over head this weekend. And also for the west wind on sunday. Dont get me wrong the waves were awesome, friday night was perfect, and saturday was decent just really big and closing out. I wish the forecasters were right but they were incorrect. But definetly the best surf of the summer.
I don't know man, Saturday was pretty much perfect where I was in Jersey. Sunday was a killer with the lack of West wind and the massive drop in swell period. But still fun from around 10am til 3pm. This morning was very fun. I'm exhausted!
we realize it was an overcall... been working on an upgrade for a while that corrects forecasts based on nearshore buoys... unfortunately, we didn't get to roll it out for the Bill swell, because we hadn't tested it enough. But, we have put the upgrade into place starting today, and will apply for the 24 hour forecast period.
Overcall? Maybe. But the thing that gets me is, who could complain? The forecast called for big waves and we had big waves. At some point, does it really matter if it is overhead, 1-3 feet overhead, double overhead or triple overhead? You either got on it or you didn't. And if you couldn't have fun Sunday morning, I don't know what you need. We will now get the inevitable post swell arguments about how big it was or wasn't and whether the forecasts were correct or incorrect, but there is only one question that needs to be answered. Did you have fun? I sure did.
agreed fatoldguy...sandbridge was really fun yesterday (sunday) if anyone was out there with consistent head high plus waves to be had by all
I saw no fat old guys in my way at ai the paddle was to much for most of them those that did make sat on the outside and did nothing.
I saw far from perfect, anything above manasquan was just huge closeouts and didnt even understand why people were floating out there not catching anything and even if they did dropped in to closeout. But I still dont think manasquan was perfect, perfect to me is clean walls of surf and barrels, which might have happened early morning sat. I think the closest spot to perfection was definitely casino pier but im sure other spots south were good as well if they could handle it.
It was a little bit of a letdown in the sense that I thought I was going to see waves that were almost unheard of here. There was a lot of talk about people not going out unless they had a gun. But...whatever. I had an awesome time watching some guys in OCMD sunday morning just ripping it out there. Went up to northern DE coast for the afternoon and had the beach to ourselves. I think probably some of the biggest and definitely fastest waves I've ever ridden. Finally got to ride my shortboard -- since I'm still kind of learning -- and it was so nice
Check out the videos on this site that show Melbourne, FL and Jacksonville, FL. There is also some video of Rodanthe on Sunday and the Carribbean from earlier last week on Surfline. The waves in these videos are good examples of glassy conditions and truly rideable surf. By rideable I mean riding for longer than five seconds and not having a wave closeout on my head. I saw a lot of closeouts and less than spectacular wave sections this weekend, but I'm sure there were also some decent rides to be had as well. We all have different interpretations of what is clean, what is glassy, etc., but I think very few places were exhibiting the type of surf seen in these videos. Anyhow, hope everyone had a good time this weekend.
Okay, "pretty much perfect" was probably the wrong phrase. First, I was south of Squan on Saturday. Didn't think my break would hold up. It did. And less than half of the waves Saturday were closeouts, everyone at the break caught their fir share of waves. Heard a lot of laughing and saw a lot of smiling.
i had a ton of fun. even though i dont surf alot, i paddled out on a bodyboard had a blast. skimboarding wasnt to bad sunday morning. and i am hoping for another storm.
sunday morn was great in the asbury area as well ! had a blast at sunset too with some of the fastest longest shorebreak rides ever! ill bill didn't dissapoint me at all
no complaints here, waves were good at assateague.A little crowded but no big deal.I took a vacation day friday, and itwas well worth it. This site is what I rely on to make the decision to head down(180 mi.one way). Three great days in the water. Had to go back to work today to get some rest. THANKS SWELLINFO
Dude. Was the surf good? YES. Stop blaiming it on the forecasters and appreciate what we had this weekend. ANY surf is good my man. Your name is not Flea Virostko so most of the forum wouldn't/cannot ride triple overhead at any time. Everyone always has to blame someone else for their bad rides which was not. SO RELAX and enjoy what mother nature brings. THANK YOU BILL. GO Ravens.....
