I surf pretty regular at WB and CB and consider myself and intermediate. But this past weekend kicked my butt. I feel like i was in a car wreck this weekend. The size of those waves were a real eye opener to the improvement I need to make.

I surf a 6'4" fish and need to get that thing lower than i thought. Any suggestions or pointers from more experienced surfers who have been here before?

    Thanks.

all you gotta do is go on youtube or some surf magazines do how to and go on their websites and look around. and finally you can check out dailystoke.com and they might have something on how to duck dive.

push down the front as hard and deep as you can, while also "diving" or almost willing your body to dive and follow through with the tail using your knee or foot. a six four fish is sort of a beast though- if your a heavier person it will be easier if not when its huge you could try turtle rolling, gripping the rails and standing under it with the board upside down, letting the wave pass over you. just practice. get your timing down.

def use your foot on bigger waves. get some speed going into it, that helps getting deeper.

when you're under, angle the nose up a little and use the force of the wave

Paddle until the last possible second, put your hands a little further forward on the board, lift up and push hard, then push the tail down with your knee/foot. This is how I 'duck' dive my longboard (RIP). I may not be getting all the way down, but its how I keep from getting pulled over backwards.

I'm fine with the basic motion, and have never had a problem getting deep enough (even in bigger waves), it's just I've never figured out how to use my foot instead of my knee. I think the problem is that I'm possibly putting too much weight on my arms therefore causing the tail to raise up more than it should, then making it harder to get my leg up. However, I feel that if I put less weight on my arms, I can't get the nose down deep enough. Has/does anybody had/have this problem and have any solutions or advice? Thanks

gain some weight. but my problem is my right knee is the knee that pushes the tail down and since i injured it it will pop when i duckdive mostly on bigger waves and i cant get deep enough. so im just building the knee muscle up until i go back to see the doc about getting some surgery done.
