Only way you as an individual benefited from ACA is if you make under $49,500 per year and file as individual.

Can't speak for New Hampshire as each state is a bit unique in this space.

I think NH is a Petri dish for ACA...but I can't be certain.

 

The 2% payroll tax reduction was a one-year tax 'holiday'. Congress extended it for 2 more years, then it expired.

Pre-ACA, if you were self-employed and had to buy a family health insurance policy on the open market holy Christ they socked it to you. Throw in some high cholesterol, and rates went through the roof. Plus there was only one insurer in NH at the time, so it was a take-it-or-leave it rate. I almost did not go out on my own because it was so expensive. If I had had diabetes or some other more serious condition they would not have insured me at all, and I definitely would not have started my business due to the risk. Post ACA, rates were significantly lower compared to what I was paying (without any govt assistance), 5 companies are in the market now with close to 100 different plans to choose from. So it's not all bad news.
