I find it interesting that many here dislike the mods, for policing our meaningless corner of the internet.

Because, users like Braap, who police us in real life, with meaningfully expensive and sometimes violent consequences, are meanwhile gladly tolerated and even praised.

I belive this was the poster who agreed that a cop should be physically assaulting a teenage boy for skateboarding.

So do you guys actually dislike authority, or do you all suck the big black nightstick?

 

Do you even surf? IF you did you would KNOW your second point is bs. I was an early member I i can tell you it was like this early on. The cast may have changed but there has always been some rough exchanges. Wanna talk about rough, go did up the thread that Yankee posted about a surf shoppe in OBX. He got both barrels and more and took it and kept on going. To my knowledge he didn't whine about needing a safe space. If i recall, one of the reasons Micah changed the forum structure to separate the surfing talk from everything else made sense but to go beyond that is overkill. You guys have it backwards. the problems inst the current forum, its the new people who come on here with a sense of entitlement AND agendas who can't deal when they aren't excepted.

Yah, I got cranked on & blasted in my early years. Deservedly so.

Having said that, in those daze the Forume had some pretty ugly, rough things going on that make today's ripostes look like piffle soup. It was routinely brutal, and simod6666 is wrong when he says not everyone got hazed.

In the bad ol' daze I distinctly recall a fair bit of harsh racist crap & anti-Semitic non-stop blustering by certain guys (who are no longer posting); Sklut put a halt to guys like that. Which, I have no problem with. That stuff s/b out of bounds & I've always said that it s/b out of bounds.

Butt this is different. This is a bunch of guys sitting around after a surf & giving each other what for in a bar. Cepriano, for example, sitting his fat arse on a barstool tells me I'm full of it & a homo for posting my surf travels. I respond with telling him to visit NYNJ's website to learn how to perform his home lobotomy. Seldomme & Billy & Zach roar with laughter. Cepriano & me clink glasses, grin & have another cold one.

Pump is right & tight, mang: do you even surf? Seems like you don't understand the human dynamic.

 

Why so defensive? Why don't you tell us why every time "the new sheriff" makes an appearance you are right there to tell him that you "like what he's done with the place". Or why you continue to side with the mods and go around policing people's posts for offensive comments. It's clear you are one of the people behind this PC movement to "clean this place up".

Not like you contribute much of value to this forum. I post more surf related content in one week on this site than you have all year. So why do you care so much what people are posting? The very people you are criticizing contribute far more surf related content than you. You're like the guy sitting on the bench talking smack to the players on the field, or the guy on the shoulder trying to bark at dudes on the peak. How about this... know your spot in the line up, dude.

So yeah Mods and Austine, this site is all about surfing. Of the 18 treads on page 1, 10 of them are about non surfing topics. Face it SI is about medical advice, political discussions and calling people names. Now go check which of those treads have the most clicks (and therefore drive the most $$$$) then think about all those ad $ leaving when the clicks drop off. So how many clicks you need for Chevy to advertise? How bout the Russian hooker ads that are on the sidebar? Love that you hock Russian brides then act like a little sh!t talk is sooooo bad.

Oh and Austin, the reason this blew up was partially due to your condescending title. We are not your fuking sons you non surfing "new hire" so don't tell us to sit down since you've been here all of a minuet compared to the SI timeline. You seem like a nice guy and I know you are "doing your job" but SI appointing an Admin who admittedly does not surf was a stupid idea. Just look at the crap myself and others get for living 2 hours inland and we do surf.

Yeah, that's called a change, as minor as it seems. Saying nothing has changed is incorrect is all i'm saying.

We understand what you're doing here, and I think most everybody is fine with the rules. It's just the way you all are going about your business right now that is rubbing people the wrong way is all.

Just give out the infractions and move on with it. Like Antoine said, no need to stir up this drama. You are taking away from a lot of really good threads going on right now. So I suggest we squash this thread and let everybody go about their business and you can do what you have to do to moderate.

And all part-timers who have something to say, should try posting surf related content every once in a while and be a contributor instead of complaining all the time. Nobody likes a critic, remember that. I know it's hard to have much to write about that's surf related if you only make it to the beach 10 times a year, but at least join in on the discussion.

It's funny, I notice these very same people who hardly post mostly end up visiting the political threads. Then when they find their opinion is of the minority, they get butthurt and leave, then complain to the mods, then come back here to voice support for this supposed cleanup effort.

I can't believe this is happening on SI, of call places. Don't let this place become like the rest of the world, it's one of few spots where people can speak their mind any more.

I don't think its a question of hating the rules as opposed to having some people come in here and drive this change because the forum did not conform to THEM.

 

Austin I know you were being funny and during the first page or two it did come off that way until the tread took on a new personality. I got nothing against you and I'm okay that you don't surf (but you should start). Every time these rules treads pop up this is what happens. I know just like life, nothing really changes and our forum will remain basically the same.

Now if new members cannot see that U2B is kidding around with the Kill yourself comments or if Barry calling them a moron hurts their butt so bad they need to whine, then maybe they are not the type of members we want here. I know you said it is not up to "us" to decide who should be here but yeah it kind of is. We (members) produce your forum content by our posts and like it or not have the power to run off folks. Look at SadDadBrad. Dude swore Yankee, Blasters and I would not "run him off". Where is he now? Point is unless you have thick skin SI will eat you alive. Maybe by codling these newbies you are adding to the pussification of America just like sports where everyone gets a trophy.
