Austine, this is your oppty to learn to surf!

And I just tried to log onto their website but it looks like the activity of tens of thousands of wave-pool-ready people has crushed their servers.

Looks like $90 for 2 hours.

Each wave will cost you about $15. I'd give it a shot if i happened to be in TX, but that's never gonna happen

Wait, you're gonna go to a wave pool and get 6 waves in 2 hours?? That's probably worse than surfing the gulf in Texas.

Looks like there are 10 spots available for each session
I believe the wave is generated every 5-10 minutes (reducing texture) from what i've read.

Could be as many as 20 waves/hour to as little as 10/hour

I watched their video and all I can think of is shotting the "pier" that runs down the middle

I know a guy who is working there (I assume it's the one in Austin your talking about). Ive never been to Austin but he loves the town (only lived there for a year so far). Anyway, I may go for a long weekend and eat/drink Austin, TX and surf...seems ass backwards but it could be a fun experience.

My brother lives in Austin. I may just have to go and kook out some mushburgers over there.

Don't know if I'm down. Sounds kinda pricey. It's about the same distance there as it is to Chorpus.

Flying to Houston on the 15th for a week. I've got two days off work.... should I try to book this surfpark crap and head to Austin? Or keep my fingers crossed for Galveston Gulf?

I would prefer to surf in the ocean if possible ... even if it's Tanker wake in the shipping channel. That just seems much harder to setup than the surfpark.

Yah, for sure, paddle out in front of the tankers. Let us know how that works out for you

You telling me that doesn't look fun? Cause a day of that and a case of beer sounds f*cking awesome to me.

You'll just have to keep your eyes on the forecast. October is usually a good time of year but it's been flat lately so who knows.

It's $90 for 1 hour and 10 people in the water. I'm not sure about this park specifically but Wavegarden, which this park is built on says they can do up to 60 "expert" waves generated per hour (30 rights and 30 lefts). So at most that would be 1 wave for you every 10 minutes, 6 waves for you per hour, or $15 for each wave you surf, depending on how you want to look at it.

I'm hugely disappointed in this pricing model... There are no options for season or weekly passes, no reduced prices for off-hours sessions, no discount for bringing your own board. Hell, even if I lived in Texas (I don't) at $15 per wave it's cheaper to go to PR or CR for a whole week than to catch 100 waves at home! And I'd get more waves to boot.

I guess we can hope that they make no money, realize the error of their ways, and drop the price massively but that seems unlikely. I'd check it once maybe as a novelty but goddam that's expensive.

It is expensive. I would do it once just for the novelty of it. I saw a vid of some pros that went to try this park and they were all raving about how fun it was. No way it compares to mama nature, but I would like to try it.

I would NEVER pay a penny for that, nor would I go in the pool even if alone and for free.
To do so is to "sell out" to the marketing forces that are ruining your favorite "activity" (please note--I did not use the term "sport").
    just opinion....

Not sure about this ruining my fave activity. This is one thing, the time in the ocean is another. How does a wave park ruin my time at sea? Just cannot see a connection there. Like saying Disney ruined surfing.
