i have 3 boards all with fcs fins and everyone of them have dings or cracks infront of the fin box from the fin digging into the board. at first i thought it was because i tightened the fins too much but i checked and they werent too tight. just wondering if anyone else has this problem...
well if its where the fin covers, maybe its because when you put the fin in you press it down to hard and it cracks.
have you taken them out? if you wiggle them forwards and backwards to get them out, the front of the fin might hit the deck and ding it. also if it's not tight enough, the same thing could happen becase it's loose while you're riding. just possibilities
fcs system sucks. I've seen (and experienced) multiple plug "push-throughs" go with future. You'll break the fin before you break the box.
fcs vs. futures, the forever long battle. The reason futures fin systems are stronger is because during the building of a board the fin boxes are put in before the board is glassed. Essentially making it 'part' of the board. FCS systems are put in after the board has been glasses however fcs has modified their system and have come out with the fusion boxes. The fusion boxes are incorporated into the board before it is glassed. I currently have a custom bill johnson with these boxes in there and I have been very pleased. I guess only time will tell if these babies hold up.
Fin Knowledge Futures and FCS are totally different types of fins and both have positives and negatives with their performance and the ability to repair them. Futures have larger boxes because the flex created from the foil is greater than FCS and requires a stronger box to handle the increased forces and flex.
