No, but we can sure rent one. Saw some guys buzzing around the beach in front of my place yesterday. Lifeguards had to chase them down. Too close to shore i guess
Can't wait to change the clocks back on Sunday! I can get my long DP sessions in before work againe. Can't stand having to get out 30-45 minutes into a session to run home, such a tease, and it's usually right as the tide is starting to work again too.
got in for a bit after work yesterday. stomach hi's were being dealt, nothing spectacular but it gave out more than a handful of waves in the small 45 min frame given. there's been some bump going on all week, and it's only going to increase given to the cold front coming up from the northee. Winds increase, temps decrease. should be actuallly getting that cool fall weather, which i wouldn't mind since i'm craving some oysters. i'm assuming some guys in the NE should be having some waves by now
There were some fun looking, looooong little peelers today. I would have jumped on it... but I was wearing the wrong suite.
right before dark, like 5:00 - 6:30 tonight - front coming through with dark clouds and sunny patches, some light sprinkles and offshore breezes. Super warm out. low tide started coming in and the lines came along with it...2-3 foot faces on the peak...medium period so the waves were walled up and had some push. Amazing session on the longboard. I'm breaking in this new one I shaped (below) and loving it in all sorts of conditions. My first attempt at a log...I figured it would paddle great and go straight real good. I didn't really trust it would turn because its so damn big, and the fin is so damn big. I guess I put enough rocker into it, because it actually comes around pretty east for a 9'5" tanker. Really stoked for Saturday, Tuesday and Wednesday and getting back on a short board.
Nice looking longboard Mitchell, it has to feel so much better knowing it's your shape by you looks really clean!
+1. What size fin? I have a 9' 6" that is sorta heavy and I went from 9" and sides to single 8". Did wonders for me. That board looks sweet dude. I really only use it in lined up glassy small days but glad I have it.
Got in a couple seshes after work Wed and Thurs before sunset. After Standard Time goes back into effect this Sunday, won't be able to do that unless I get off work early. True though, it will be lighter in the AM so will shift to mornings as tides permit. Yesterday was thigh high and particularly clean and glassy. Mostly longboard stuff. It was worth paddling out, but you had to be patient waiting between sets. Was surprised only a few were out. One can't rely entirely on SL surf reports which had VB conditions as "Poor" or "Very Poor".
things are looking pretty good for tomorrow. strong wind gusts today +20, but from what i can see per SI and Weather Channel is that the wind won't be as strong tomorrow ~+10-15. predicted chest highs on all my forecasts. only predicament is Magik Seeweed suggesting +20 winds tomorrow, but i believe they are in the wrong. fingerz crost
you did better then I, tho I was riding a 5'4". I was at the park an hour before dark, weak where I was...very weak, thigh max. Couple dudes hooting...sounded pretty stoked. I certainly wasn't but still nice to be in the water.
Surfed for about 4 hours this morning. After last evenings events I needed a real session, and I thank the wave and wind gods for cooperating. I took off the first few hours of work and met up with a buddy who drove over from the Gulf Coast. He was on his SUP and I was on my LB. I brought my SB, but it looked a little soft out there. At first it was only about waist high but as the tide filled in there was a 2-3 hour window of waist to chest with some shoulder / head sets rolling in. With the LB I was able to get in early and go for long rides. Lots of turns, cutbacks, nose rides, etc., It wasn't completely lined up, it was kinda peaky and on the inside it got steep and was nearly closing out, which made for some fun times! It was soft on the in-between waves, but when the bigger sets came in there was plenty juice in them with lots of speed. All in all a great session, one that I needed. So thankful.
