wanted to contribute to this great society of swellers after lurking for a while... you all make me laugh (in a good way)
I started making cheesy local surf vids less than a year ago and wanted to post them so I had to sign up, than realized I could post to the forumme so I started checking out threads and laughed my ass off from some of the posts. I've been checking SI for ten years or so for forecasts and vids but never really checked the forumme, always busy. I fu%king missed out. You guys are all right.
i wanted to fit in at school. figured being on a hardcore website would give my peers the "core" surfer impression
I'm here for the forecast first, and can't help but occasionally contribute the fu ckery on this here forum. Been slacking lately as a new job is running me ragged. Speaking of work; one time while at work (old job) I said fu ck it and just hung out on here all day, for like a year ha. Did it because Seldom said he posted from work all day and it sounded like a solid idea... where is that dude anyway? Sometimes this place makes me laugh so hard. That's why I come back. Like the "might as well come clean" thread. Seriously fu cking classic. I also like the (unfortunately rare) lively surf related thread. There was a really good one a couple months ago. I think it was the one questioning what, as surfers, we sacrifice in order to live close to the ocean, or how we ended up moving inland. Good stuff there.
You should get the "I post on SI" bumper sticker, it definitely helps your rep. I put mine next to my Hurley sticker, and I've noticed I get respect in the line-up now.
I initially came for advice and potential people to surf with while exploring new locations. I've since attained both of what I came looking for. This site has helped me up my stoke when the tank is low. I don't have many people I surf with and 19 times out of 20 I'm surfing alone. So it's nice to share the experience with people that are somewhat like minded.
That's another thing that's cool here. Hurricane swell rolls through or whatever. You get to hear the stories from other guys in your area or in nearby states. I find it interesting to see how certain swells pan out for different areas and breaks.
^. Been helping a little with learning about places I wanna make longer drives to and what conditions to look for, etc.
