It's snowing today, and the trend is cold cold cold. Water temps have stayed pretty mild so far this fall/winter, but they'll be dropping like a stone now with lows in the teens. Every time I look at the models they get more depressing, but there's still a small ray of hope mid-week.
Sorry sogmund but it was 87 degrees out today with 15 mph offshores, semi clean 6-8 sec Four wave sets, knee to thigh, occasional bigger ones. What a great treat -- calm, floaty long board rides. Almost no one there due to midweek. Also, I think most had left about thirty minutes before we go there to catch the end of the incoming tide. But the best part is my kid is in town this week. She came and had fun together ...she was using a 5'5" soft top board like a body board. What a fun way to enjoy each other's company. FREE SELDOMME
That's okay, I don't get jealous until it's chest high. On the plus side the mountains have been getting some dumpage, so going boarding this weekend.
Looks real fun. Just checked it on my lunch and am kicking myself for not being prepared with my gear in my car.
2-4 feet for this afternoon. LOL i was surfin 3' overhead bombs in asbury from noon till dusk. best surf ive had all year.
I can't completely agree with you, waldo... but it definitely was good. Glad you scored, and got in an epic session!
Same underforecast on Delmarva. not 3-4 as forecast instead more like 4-6 with well overhead sets. Wind forecast was also off...stayed mostly north all day leaving sideshore warble/texture. Scored some fun waves late afternoon, but at a spot about half the size of elsewhere.
Ill take an under reported wave prediction any day, usually they over call it. Today surfline called for 4-5 spot on, good work surfline. Nice clean conditions, a few coverups and some nice walls in moco
That's the shizz. Far from the case where I was... A big pack of dudes up at the top, but a smaller pack at a peak down the beach that was still firing. Pulled into only one barrel all session, and didn't even make it out of that one. Still... lots of long workable walls and a positive vibe in the water.
Checked it this morning, knee high weak dribble, almost thought about paddling out to catch a possible thigh high "set" wave before work but it was so uninspiring I couldn't. It looked pretty drained out with the upcoming low tide. It'll probably be better with a little more water. I watched the sunrise and went home. I need a consistent run of swell or i'm going to go nuts, this isn't healthy.
yesterday was great. literally sprinted out of school to my car. really really fun waves in the late afternoon with some crazy drainers before dark!!!!!! ahhhhh i love surfing probably gonna be my last session with no gloves tho, my fingers were freeeeezin
No gloves!! I put away the 3 mils and went with 5ers for the first time yesterday! Actually wore the full 5mil for the first time too. Cost me a few waves at the beginning of the session before I got used to it... stiff, heavy suite, and an out-of-shape old man. I always say old men are like old cars... they take a little longer to warm up, but they can go for miles!
You guys are stoked...I have been so busy, I missed the last two swells. 3/2 was last rubber I had on....looks like 4/3 will be in order this week. LB, the old man theory is legit. It always takes me some time to adjust when putting on boots, gloves and hood too. I hate when I'm stiff at the beginning of a sesh and go to get up and boot sorta drags and my footing is off for the first wave or two!
Gloves always mess with me (5 mil lobsters all I wear) when I finally wear them. I feel like my shoulders burn out, hands move slower through the water, etc. Increased surface area of a 5 mil Lobster totally changes the hydrodynamic and muscle memory..
Still trunking it here with a 1mm top for the wind. Wore a springsuite a few times but really could have gone without.
Yea, backside hack... 5mil gloves get my shoulders burning a lot faster. But have to admit that 5mil boots throw off my game more than anything. That damn toe drag... Plus, I feel like 5mil rubber around the midsection slows down my pop up... adds a lot more resistance to getting that front knee up under my chest quickly, and getting my front foot in the right spot. Definitely takes me a few waves to make the adjustment.
