Have any of u guys heard that a surfer died in delaware recently like in the past day? my friend just told me that this dude died from our school but i don't kno if it is true. You guys here anything bout it?
A father died around 35th street in oc about two days go, but he wasn't surfing. He was trying to save his son who was in a rip.
Well, thats fu**ed. was it in the morning or something? Are the guards already off this time of year?

its a horrible thing, but just another remind that the water can be dangerous. Even if lifeguards would of been on duty people need to understand they are taking a huge risk by being an uneducated and non-operating swimmer.
thats really sad. They mentioned something in the article about the topic of banning swimmers at night being discussed. The ocean is certainly dangerous for those without experience, but it would certainly be a shame for the rest of us.
This is a very sad story and yes swimming at night in the ocean is kinda dangerous, but banning swimming at night???? Are we just trying to come up with enough rules as a society that we will no longer have the need for common sense? "Seems dangerous but there are no rules against it, Let's do it then." Can we please start taking some responsability for our and our childrens actions?!? I have two kids (5 and 2) and they are not going night swimming nor are they going any deeper into the ocean then I feel comfortable with. And if they drown, it's MY own damn fault.
a few thangs from the inside: the captain of the OCBP is wholeheartedly against any ban on water activities after guards are on duty. there was some misinformation and one of the local papers reported otherwise, but ya that's whats up so dont worry about that actually happening. it's a few guys on council toying that idea around, but with no backing from the bp it wont go through. also, the rip this guy drowned in is no joke, it's from those 2 weeks of NE winds that gave us those really fun swells and is really well formed. it's a consistent puller, pulls all day with no break regardless of tide. it's a textbook rip, with sandbars on either side that are 1/2 foot deep at low tide, while the rip is chest deep (4 feet) at low. it has feeders sucking in through the trough and straight out. it's pretty cool to watch, but unfortunately those guys went swimming an hour after i called everyone out :-/ what can ya do? there's a reason why we blow out all swimmers at 5:25... i sit 35th street all fall, so ive been swimming/playing around in this rip on my workout breaks. we've nicknamed it the 'swallower of men', not to be confused with the 'child snatcher' of 38th street.
A freshman from UNCW died at Wrightsville Beach on the 25th. Campus email said he was with some friends and got caught in a strom, but it said the cause of death is still undetermined. I would hope the lack of common sense didn't lead to any of these deaths. Does anyone know if that father saved his son before sacrificing himself, or did they both not make it?
this kid i went to high school with died two days ago in delaware surfing. Apparently he was struck by lightning.
..the 16 year old made it in, the 52 yr old father didn't. surprised that there weren't more surfers around when it happened. i know it was pretty much dead low and flat monday but even so it seems like there are always people surfing within blocks of the castle.
