i just got back from southern Maine where it was going off this morning. I didn't bother paddling all the way out because I was the only person in the water and I didn't know the area very well. Being a wuss and not a very good surfer were also contributing factors.

I only went out about to where the waves were 3 ft. About 20 yds past where I was they looked maybe 4 or 5 ft, but then there were monsters another 30-50 yards past those. It's hard to say exactly how big they were from so far away, but I did catch a brief glimpse of a guy riding one while I was first paddling out and it was easily over-head.

The buoys said the swell was around 8 or 9 ft at 11s and the winds were blowing strong off shore. I realize I could be way off, but it seems possible that the biggest of those were in the 8, maybe even 10 feet.

I'm guessing this is the same system that came through the mid-atlantic sunday?

I would honestly say that some of the faces in spring lake were 1-2 ft. overhead. Anyway, was anyone out last night? After those clouds rolled through it went hard offshore and it was left hand barrell after barrell well past dark for me.

yeah last night was good too, even before the wind switched. once those dark clouds started rolling in, it looked like the world was coming to an end then lefty barrell after lefty barrell stayed in past dark

That's odd. Which night? What time did you check? On Sunday I went out right after the yankees put the whoop on the red sox and everyone was saying that it had just picked up out of nowhere but it was cranking good size and powerful.

Last night I almost didn't go out but was glad I did. It was choppy to start. I was out from 5:45 to 7:10. The clouds probly rolled through around 6:30? And these bowls were coming in off the rocks and it like a machine: drop, hug the wall and just get curtained... I had some of the deepest darkest barrels of the year last night. It was weird the sun coming through those dark clouds made it feel like I was surfing in blue light...

What MB cam are you talking about? if it's the one on this site I don't know why they just don't take it down the kid hasn't updated his report for like six months!

None of you seem to understand what i was originally saying. this was a WIND SWELL! meaning the size of the waves are all going to depend on the wind and tides. in DEAL NJ. MONMOUTH COUNTY. high tide was 3 oclockish and around 430 this storm came through and once it passed by 5 the winds switched straight west with the tide moving out fast. before i knew it the waves were consistenly head high with overhead sets. this all depended on the weather in your area. if you are from oc or md or del i dont care what you have to say thats over 2 to 4 hours away from. conditions are way diff here so dont be calling what i saw bull!

    It was slammin

I arrived at Naval Jetty, DE around 2:00pm thinking that the surf was going to be weak with incoming tide, but it was a fun solid 4 foot. Then about 4:00pm the sets got bigger, in the chest to head high range and hoowlin. There were sets in the overhead range that arrived every 5-10 minutes. The high tide did play a factor on the conditions. The wave would explode at the jetty point and fizzle out wich made it difficult to connect into the inside section. If you were lucky to catch the right wave you could easly ride for hundred yards plus.
I had my worst wipe out in years dropping in on one of the overhead size waves. I didn't see it coming and began to paddle right at it and turn just before it broke. I didn't have the proper forward motion, the wave was moving way faster then me, when I stood up on my board I realized this was not going to go well. I looked down a saw that I was on the curl and about to ride the falls, at that point I had to comit. As I fell, I noticed another surfers feet and tall end of board duck diving below me. I made every attempt to get my nose up and ride this sucker out, but my board left my feet began to flip in the wind. I free fell and connected with the rail of my board and my right shin "OUCH", tumbled several times underwater and came up laughing with a sore shin. I paddled out to line up and and had a look at my leg, I found a nice gash that was bleeding. There really was no pain, so I just kept surfing. Thank God, I was not in Florida or I may have attracted sharks.
In all, the surf was great, 8 out of 10... :)

You obviously have no idea what lies 1/2 mile offshore from there then.

squan and deal are like 30 mins away. conditions vary alot. i didnt wanna hear your criticism. i know what i saw. ive been surfing for 10 years i know what im talking about. when you paddle out see a friend riding a wave standing straight up hands over his head and still have a good 2 feet of wave over him. i wanna hear what you saw in different places and especially around deal long branch area
