Maybe when the day finally comes that we're too old to surf, we'll have dreams where we're surfing.

Here is another one, that I started to tell a few months back, but Austin never took the guess, when questioned by me. It is high upon the list of my kookiest water experiences, sailing directly through the center of a hurricane. I have some cool photos of that, as well.

2/3rds ended up in the infirmary, and fortunately I was not one of them (I had a blast, lol).

You sailed directly through a hurricane? Cat 1 has sustained winds of 74-95 mph. Please do tell because this is pretty unbelievable.

Was surfing Pacifica in NorCal in the spring and saw some dude that was rocking probably a 5/4, claws, booties and a hood while I was toasty in a 3 mil. I know NY winters make everything seem warm by comparison, but this dude could have been surfing Iceland. People who over-rubber for no reason just make me shake my head

'tis very true. I have worked so many disasters that I have difficulty recalling each name (they all run together in my memory, other than surreal moments). Let me see if I can dig that particular hurricane's name out with a few queries, and I will post the link.

Issue your queeries. What type of boat was it? How big? Why in god's sweet ass were you on a boat sailing through the ****ing middle of a hurricane? Also, was there any point in time where everyone on this sail boat thought they were going to die and just started masturbating? We need answers and pictures

    Man I hope so!

    Here's some kookyness:

-I paddled out once already this winter without zipping my suit. Sadly, not the first time I've done this.

-I've paddled out with sunglasses on my head as well.

-Watched a friend that was all giddy to surf struggling to get his suit on only to realize he had it on backwards.

-We duct taped a bright yellow dishwashing glove on my friends hand so he could surf with some type of cast or stitches in his hand. Failed, but he had fun surfing.

-We tried layering spring and fall suits to form a wintersuit. Didn't work. Someone tried to incorporate a hefty bag into that setup, Really didn't work.

-A friend took a dump in his wintersuit.

-I paddled way outside and dropped a sea-doo, then freaked out when it popped up next to me. Fiber!

-I watched a guy that clearly had surfing abilities go the wrong way on waves repeatedly. It was head high; He was like a kamikaze pilot heading straight into the barrel the wrong way. So strange.

-Watched a guy lose his big classic longboard multiple times in front of a relatively crowded swimming beach, and then he proceeded to tell me he never wears a leash because they're too dangerous.

First off, my tummy has only now stopped doing crunches from laughing so hard, after reading pkovo's HILARIOUS adventures, lol, but then actually watching that outrageous video...

As brainlessly exhausted as I am today, I am on extremely mental low gear; so, please standby, and keep your hands out of your laps, while I type all of this.

Secondly, I have not seen the photos in years and have no idea if they are resident upon this particular system, my external drive (which I currently do not have access to), or elsewhere (you simply cannot begin to fathom how many photos I have taken over the years...); however, I will make a point to look for them over the weekend. In the meantime, I will describe them to you (I certainly did not take many, for good reasons).

Surprisingly, the hurricane must have been Mrs. Wilma, which is pretty cool to me, if so, and I base this upon the dates and track. I see no alternative in the list of storms for 2005.

The CAT looks as if it may have been a 2, at that point:

I believe that it was the "Take Austin Fishing" thread, when I previously mentioned it; all that I recall, at the moment, is Austin was concerned about dying, and I believed him to be joking with everyone (and still do). I mentioned that I had just come off of working back-to-back hurricanes, Katrina and Rita, and thought it extremely wise to take a break; so, although I hate cruises, I booked one, and thankfully the nicest and most spacious suite on the very top, with a lovely balcony. I no longer recall the cruise line, possibly Norwegian, but I think that it was Royal Caribbean, and I certainly do recall much about the captain.

I no longer recall where I was, when I heard him make the announcement that a hurricane had developed, and we had no choice but to sail directly through it. He stated a captain's meeting would be held at a specific time, and that all were welcome to attend. Amazingly, not many did so.

His first did most of the talking, but then he made some statements and took questions. I let everyone ask their questions first, and then I asked mine. I no longer recall what I asked, but I do recall him staring at me for a good while before answering. I recall that he was surprised by my questions, and so he posed one to me, prior to answering mine in great detail. I carefully listened, as I watched his eyes and body language, and I was satisfied with him. He had explained that we would be sailing through 30' waves, with the possibility of some much higher, of course. It was a large vessel, and so I was not overly concerned, but was well aware of what could occur...

The two thirds ending up within the infirmary included the crew. During the midst of all, the vessel was like a ghost ship, with very few walking about it. I spent time in the casino playing poker, and went into the stand-up tanning bed, as well; now, that was truly entertaining, lol, trying to dance to the music, nude, while not getting slammed this way and that way (I was laughing my lil butt off, lolol...that was "kookie", lol). Of course, I went to eat, as well. The coolest part was standing on deck with my camera.

My suite was on the same side as the bridge, and so I did not have far to go, in order to see the captain at work. I recall standing there, with my arm wrapped through one of the rails, so as to keep from being thrown. I took a few photos of him, with the white water reaching all the way up to him (pretty cool), and then I simply stared at him for a while. He looked up at me, and our eyes locked, for what seemed like forever; it was as if we were talking to one another. I then gave him a reassuring smile, and he returned it, but then it was as if he was gone, his eyes focused back upon his mission. I went back to my suite, knowing that he had one less thing to be concerned about, somehow.

I hope all of that makes sense, because my mind is beyond mush, at the moment, lol.

This year I met up with a new crew member and paddled out with her on a really choppy disorganized day. ... We were so engrossed in conversation and getting to know each other that we just kept paddling out toward Africa unaware that we were like 50 -100 yards past the lineup. We sheepishly paddled back in to the lineup when we noticed it .

Unfortunately one of the regular guys saw this whole kook move and was laughing and gently ribbing us about it. We felt like such kooks, but it was all in good fun.
