The shop near me had a local paper do a write up on them and that kept coming out. "They saw a need in the community for a surf shop that served cappuccino, gifts, and Acai bowls." They were also nice enough to think about the locals "We have enjoyed this area for many years and felt it was time to give back to the community" . Give back? How is taking my money for overpriced crap giving back? Hate that.
You guys... Look, these shops are just copying shops that started 40 years ago, like Natural Art in Cape Hatteras, NC, since 1977. Just go check the surf at the Lighthouse any morning, and Scott will definitely invite you over for a pour from Carol, and then you can talk altshakes with Curtis. I can see Curtis setting up the short shorts with Carol playing Jack Johnson on her guitar, while Scott walks over from the shaping shed with his new three-legged rescue dog. Yup, changing with the times, boys, that is what we need. I can see it now.
Yeah...I dunno arch... Who knows maybe they'll set up a sweatshop in the back For those skinny jeans and slim shirts.. And artisan this and artisan that... I'm just saying ....let them.. If it's valid...they'll survive ..if not Given enough rope....well you know.. Fyi....I don't want even want to have the slightest clue What's in laird's supper food.
They sell their clothing line in Bloomingdales http://www1.bloomingdales.com/shop/search?keyword=saturdays+nyc&cm_kws_ac=saturdays
Wow dude how did you find that? Flo help you with a queery? Looking more and more like a well-connected and bankrolled operation, brimming with plastic "soul". Maybe they'll start selling some of that Grain garbage, like a plywood hand plane for $300.
Those are impressive querying skills who pays that kind of money for such bland clothing. Or for any kind of clothing for that matter. That sums up the feeling I got walking through their store. DH asked, " anything you want? " "ya. I wanna leave, this isn't really a surf shop. It's a fleece shop"
Definitely a store for hipsters who pretend to be surfers. Being in there stores and watching them surf are both very disturbing. This will be the new wave which ends surfing. Snowflake hipsters who are always looking for a band that no one listens to and a weird board that no one has surfed. Now there should be a ban on these people. These shops are mainly in cities where the real surfers live.
I dunno dude. Our surfing subculture has seen generations of fads...yet surfing (and real surfers whom don't buy into the latest fads) still exists, and continues to grow. Whatever the next fad is, it will probably create some sort of nostalgia for hipsters. Gets worse every generation.
Exactly. I was just joking around. We will still be here. Maybe I'm just getting old and this is the future generation which is scary.
You're getting old? YOU'RE getting old? Wait another 10 years, brother... when more things hurt than don't.
Your not kidding. I think I'm already there. Most things are hurting these days but it's worth it for some nice waves.
" Socrates (469–399 B.C.) QUOTATION: The children now love luxury; they have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for elders and love chatter in place of exercise. Children are now tyrants, not the servants of their households. They no longer rise when elders enter the room. They contradict their parents, chatter before company, gobble up dainties at the table, cross their legs, and tyrannize their teachers."
