My dudes, I scored tonight. Pulled a sick deal on a Craigslist found single fin. I'm happy to say she has a new home. Plus I've been itching to try out a single fin on a nice lined up day. The board is 6'10"x22" and something like 3.5" thick. The deck says "Surfboards California/Toro/Beachbreak" Anybody seen this label before? I read online that Surfboards California was a label shaped in SoCal by a guy named Steve Bernard. The board is made of Clark Foam so I know it's old - see pics. Anyways the guy I bought it from said it was his brother's and that it hadn't been in the water since the 1970s. I got it for $160. It's the most beautiful vessel I've ever had. I had a nice cleaning sesh bonding with her. Got a few minor dings to patch, but overall in absolute amazing condition. Check my pics and let me know your thoughts!
More pics and also a question about my fin... should I be riding this leashless? Or should I rig a leash through that fin?
She's a displacement hull, so I'm not expecting to ride her great in our beach breaks if at all. But, hopefully I can test it out on something soon. Good wall hanger if all else fails.
Sweet score. Used to have an old board with same leash set up ( through the fin). Leash rope would break almost every time I surfed it.
Yea I saw that beauty on CL too, surprised you scored that for under $200. Great find, need a ride report when you get her wet for the first time.
This thing!!!! So stoked to catch you out there and steal it for a couple fun ones... kanman is the deal shark..
Nice man, pretty looking board. Looks like it'll be fun in the right conditions. What's your hight and weight if you dint mind me asking? I think I'd prefer it either longer or shorter....Boards in between don't work for me. But hey, it's a CL board, can't pick the dims. Sweet find either way. Can't wait for the ride report
Bass, I'm like 5'8" and 170-175. Dude had it listed for 8'. His calculations were about a foot and two inches off. I was hoping it would be bigger, but I can't argue with it. Hoping to get it out this Sunday. By the way what kind of bottom contour was your single fin? I'm not expecting much with this thing being a displacement hull. Hopefully it does something for me.
Mine has a single concave with vee out the tail. Sometimes i make trips down to jerz. Next time i take the trip down I'll reach out. If your intrested in trying diffrent singles you'd be welcome to try it or even hold on to it for a little to try it in diffrent conditions.
You know what...your board actually sort of reminds me of another single i sold. It was 7'8 but super foiled out and performancey. If you looked at just the tail, you'd think it was a SB. Rounded pin. Nose was more full like a LB. That board was sooooooo much fun in like stomach-HH slow rollers. Could actually handle a steeper wave pretty well to. For a bigger board, it was so easy to whip around. Had a similar fin to what it looks like you got. Man that board was a blast. Good memories of that one. Luckily i sold it to a buddy who needed it more than i so i still get to see it in action.
Shoot me a PM any time you come down. If I'm available, I'll be game. I'm all about trying new shapes. It's all fun to me. I think your single concave is probably much more user friendly than mine will be, but I can't speak on it yet. I just have no experience with hulls. The foil on this board is strange, foiled out in the nose and tail but absolutely massive thick rails in the mid section. Like bigger than my longboard thick. It's gonna make for an interesting ride. I was thinking of having a mid length shaped with a single in the front and double out the back. If you get a chance check out the bing collector. I want something modeled off of that. It's a sweet looking ride.
