As soon as my daughter can hold onto my neck we're riding a wave together. And that's when I'll probly actually use the gopro that's been collecting dust for a year.

    These are great pics Cjsurf.

Am loving reading these stories. I think being a parent makes it awesome to read about everyone's kids.

Freaking site has gone dead, dead as the proverbial doornail.
I figure I may have to return to and step up insulting swellies to get their mojo back.
It is getting boring around here........

My oldest (12) really took to surfing right off the bat. His little brother (10 1/2) just started last summer. We go to the beach almost every Sunday and hang out most of the day waves or not. They started boogie boarding around 4 or 5. I didn't pressure them about surfing they just have naturally progressed. I have seen parents pressure their kids to play sports and it seems to backfire. I told them I don't care if they play sports but they can't become couch potatoes. Nothing better than seeing them get stoked out in the water. I got to get 2 more soft top boards this spring.

Coolest dad award goes to this guy! This is nice stuff! They're looking good!

I wish I started when I was a toddler, but growing up in Bergen County, we'd only go to the beach a few weekends a year and usually would do a week in Wildwood or Cape May. I wish I had started this earlier!

With my nephews that I mentioned earlier, we never tried to get them to surf. We just took them to the beach at a young age and they'd see us doing it and got interested in it. There's a lot worse things you can get into than surfing when you're young. Just gotta make sure they can swim and are safe out there, like what I said we had to do with the one who was a bit overweight and had a tough time in rip currents.

Thanks. If not for the fact that I make boards and have some good connections I'd never been able to pull it off. The price of boards and wetsuits for 3 kids and dad to surf year round in the North East is astronomical. A lot of the credit goes to the coolest surf mom around who takes them and their friends surfing after school and in the summer while I'm at work even in the dead of winter no matter how good or bad the waves are.

Definitely gets pricey when you add groms. Kids look like they are gonna be major shredas. Goode job.

My kids are still too young. They're in puddle jumpers at the pool, and run away from the washup on the beach. The closest they get to surfing is when I "fly" them over the shorebreak. We're going somewhere with warmer water this summer, and they'll probably get their first board rides then.

But I have already picked up wetsuits for them when I found some for a couple bucks. They're gonna get pushed to become proficient swimmers, but there's no expectation they surf. More waves for me if they don't. Daughter does point to the surfer in goodnight beach and say "Daddy surf, mommy surf, brother surf, I surf."

Of course, I secretly dream about the day they're waking me up at 0530 every day to take them surfing at the point in town before school.

She's 2. I like my setup, but I'm jealous of those who have good waves in warm water, because--despite what I sometimes say--I do want my family surfing with me. Wife paddles out when we go to our other home in the lower latitudes of the Pacific, but around here surfing entails some suffering, and lots of rubber, most of the year.

Dang! I knew I should've screened my facebook friends before I posted that shot of me scoring a OH barrel!

The first day I surfed at age 13 I became utterly and completely hooked, and it became a lifelong pursuit of mine. This however, was not the case for my 2 kids. Despite years of surf camps, and water time out front of my place, they could take it or leave it, and rarely surf now. This is fine, they have found other passions in life so far. My son skates and plays guitar like it's nobodies business, and my daughter is an artist. We each find our own path. My job as a parent was to expose them to a bunch of different things and experiences and see what takes root.
