I hear ya. It's been 5 days since the scope and I "walked" without crutches today for the first time...may have been sooner if I didn't ditch the norco after the second day (apparently, I dislike constipation and nausea more than pain). Do not trust standard MRIs (either positive or negative)...they are bullsh!t. Neither of the 2 MRI I had (each at different offices, different machines and different doctors) showed any anomalies...not even on my kneecap cartilage, which I knew was shredded. Since there were 2 negative MRIs, I trusted them and I pushed my limits much harder than I would've if even one MRI had showed something...anything! The result is I inevitably made the bashed knee worse...and I'm now feeling meniscus-type pain in the other knee. I can only hope PT will iron things out enough in both knees to get me back stand-up surfing sometime soon....even if it is just knee-high rollers on my wavestorm.
Looks good.... Fyi....shoulder surgery 3-17-17.....Dr king ... Bicep tendon 95% shredded,anterior..posterior labrum.....90%torn rotator cuff.. 4 arthrex anchors later.intra opt prp.....I'm home.... .between this and the scalene nerve block...whole right side of my chest..shoulder, and upper arm.. One big blue purple tattoo.. Prognosis I'll be surfing in hawaii in August...
Wha.....?? Not.....Doctor KING!?!? The AMA let him have his surgical license back?? Ah, yes, just a bit of humerus. Do your rehab, don't push it, the only deadline is feeling good again, and best of success with that wing dansan!
last saturday, decided to hop on the stationary bike to try some passive revolutions to kickstart getting my ROM back. They didn't hurt and I didn't do very many...but when I woke up the next morning, my knee looked like there was a water balloon inside it. It's still puffed up today, only not quite as much. Feel like an idiot. Today, doc went into detail what he did to my knee. The excised meniscus flap was small (less than 15%), but was flipped up over the front of my femoral chondyl...supposedly, that's why the MRI didn't see it (still think MRIs are bullsh!t). He trimmed away some of the inflamed/scarred up fat pad and cleaned up some other stuff, too. He didn't even mention my kneecap (I read the scope pics wrong), but I have a lesion on my lateral femoral chondyl (from the initial accident) and another smaller lesion on my medial femoral chondyl, probably just from it wearing against the meniscus flap while I was trying to walk on it all last year. Those femoral lesions are going to be my biggest hurdle in trying to get back to any type of sports...and they hurt like hell just walking on them right now.
Damn, man, that sounds as if it could sideline you for longer than you'd thought. Or......forever? Nothing good awaits us in the realm of health of our bodies & minds. Enjoy your daze, buoyz & Betty.....
Actually ...it already looking good...started pre-rehab..phase....getting range... Plus Dr. King is the best...former Lakers, rams, Olympic ortho doc... Now sf giants, raiders.Lotta the mavs guys....I used to scrub for him...he does amazing work... He doesn't bs....told me I'll do more than paddle out... He toook down a bone spur..and bursa...that was the biggest pain factor.. The labrum didn't need repairs/anchors..just some shaving... The rotator cuff was a pretty routine repair...I'll email sometime how we do the repair.. 2 anchors distal...two proximal ...under cuff tear..and just weave the sutures Back and forth for strength... It's the bicep tendon I have to be real careful and patient with... He did a mini open...to reattach... Pain is there..but it's getting better also... Finding a comfortable sleeping position is key... I only wear the abduction sling...when im out and about...otherwise.. Dr king wants normal movements...hopefully in 4 weeks I'll begin the Real rehab phase... I drove today...it was weird... I just picked a vbowls from a friend...so staring at that and my other boards.. Keeps the eye on the prize Trying to stay positive ...in And out..side.
