Ya derg I figured it out. Surfer shoulder is compounded by the over development of the upper back and shoulder. To help combat this problem do push ups or use weights to develop your chest. That way your shoulder won't be rocked crooked in your joint causing harsh good vibe killing deterioration. Any fitness gurus got anything on this, I'm just a crazy person

If you attached a battery powered trolling motor to the back of your boart, it will alleviate this problem greatly.

You need to do opposing stretches and excersizes to counter the forward oreintation of paddling, swimming freestyle, sitting at a desk, its all cumulative. So do some backstroke, and light weight high rep workouts with correct movements - www.surfstrengthcoach.com (I think) is where I went to for videos to rehab my shoulder. I tore it up a while ago, surfing mad windchoppe for weeks on end, and eating it in the shore pound, multiple times. And continuing to surf after injuring it just being a hardhead. Took me four months during flat summer to get it nice, six more to get it strong, and six more to make sure. It's better than new now! Push ups are good too! Don't go under the knife unless it's shredded to bits.

I know you have to actually be a surfer to get it, so you've got nothing to worry about

    Good exercises here:

#6 is good on top of a pushup (the version shown in the web page is if you are way under-conditioned). Do a pushup, and when you get to the top of the pushup, continue to rotate your shoulders forward. Also, do yoga. Headstands, handstands, and crows are great for shoulder strengthening.

This x100. I feel opposing stretches are more important. But iv seen the guys you tube videos. He's a douche bag, but he knows what he's talking about.

To clownfsce, I'm not saying push ups are bad... But they don't only work your chest. Its working your triceps and shoulders also (both used while paddling). So yea you'd be strengthening your chest... But you'd be doing the same for your shoulder which is the problem. This is why i suggest opposing stretches.

Foam rollers or a lacrosse ball to get this knots out help too. The surf strength coach douche bag covers that in his YouTube videos also. Give it a look
