So I took the garbage to the dump on Saturday, reluctantly because I hate going to the dump but Saturday is the only day I really have to go. Well, I pull up and what do you know but somebody has left a monster windsurfer there! So I strapped that bad boy to the car and brought it home! I don't have the mast or sail, but that's ok. The boart has to be at least 12' long and weighs gotta be about 40 pounds. I really needed something with a flat deck that I can use as a paddleboard to reach some spearfishing spots, so I'm pretty stoked. I doubt it's any good to surf on, but if I can get it to move I'll bet it will catch anything that moves. We're supposed to have some small 2-3' surf tomorrow, so I think I'm going to take it out and see if it will hold a line. Far away from anyone else, as it's big and heavy as hell. Stoked!
Windsurf board didn't work so well as a surfboard. It is just stupidly heavy, and the rails are all rounded so it's hard to get it on an edge and hold a line. I got a few rail grab backsidey things, but front side I was just holding on for life. The surf was absolute crap, so maybe it works a bit better in cleaner surf. However, it has absolutely zero rocker, which was a problem. I think I will save it for paddling, and, of course, windsurfing if I ever learn how.
I scored garbage, but nfla closeout junk, because i surfed, i was alone, and it was warm. Tomorrow i try the poles.
Venice Florida had a decent swell come in from the cold front allowing for some half decent surfing on the foamy.(fish got dinged and is being repaired atm). Here's a quick video of the morning before the GoPro died on me.
hey steezy, werent you told to turn that Go Pro around? and again, rocky rights gas chambers turkeys delivered the afternoon, 12 dudes at 330 40 dudes at 5pm. 1 chick. not hot. perhaps, but spring suit covered the best of the naughty bits. but trunks, neon blue water and some overhead sweet ones, some were soft, some were hitting just right and making this trough dip that picked you up and you knew it was going to be good....... slingshot you into the next section, then it was shwackety schwack to the end. I got a few of those rights and some mediocre lefts. late season looks to go till the end of the month!! good times
nice avatar saurus haha. yesterday's evening session was a bit shifty but there was some underswell. got a handful before i called it quits - i was a loner out there. This morning it crowded up a bit quick at dawn patrol. it cleaned up, but the periods were off which made the waves hard to hold a line. started off struggles, but managed to get another handful before i darted to work. Took the LB both days, wish i would've had time to hit up the more sure spots this morning
Toonces, I had a few old windsurf boards that I attempted to surf and all of them sucked. I thought they were **** for paddling too but YMMV.
Onshore winds the last few days kicked up some short period wind choppe. I got out in it Tuesday evening for aboot two hours. Random waist to chest high peaks. My friend Disney (yes, his name is actually Disney) was already in the water when I arrived but he abandonned me shortly after. Good thing cuz that way there was nobody around to see me surfing boart riding like shot as I often do on those dumpy low tide waves. Still found a few decent rides here and there. Looks like some form of surf will be around through the weekend so I'm gonna try to go againe this evening. It's blown out choppe but it's much better than not surfing.
That is what i am doing, plus the water back home in jersey is 40's so i will enjoy my week of nfla choppe.
if its any consolation, I surfed chambers/turkeys/rockies for 4+ hours today. first session had light crowds and good winds, second session kinda windy and more peopled.
getting bigger down at Folly. The long period swells have been killing me the past couple days because i'm running out of time. Had only a couple this morning on the LB, the others were closeouts and mislanded floater. constantly waiting and checking the watch sux. I'm lucky enuff to have tomorrow off tho, so i plan on riding several boards and getting up for DP. Yesterday i took out the fixed Hog Molly (damaged it on the rocks of Ft. Fisher last time), and have several slo rollers that gave me some sets to toil with. only a couple surfers out in the evening yesterday, a good score of them there this morning (also cleaner). They were waist yesterday, now they're chest and hoping tomorrow for shoulder while trying the new 6'2" Pride board i picked up. looking to get a golden tan tomorrow, sum of dat carolina gold
yes, welcome back. Wish I could surf...any conditions (been out for over a year due to a wrecked knee...and I still see no light at the end of the tunnel)
