Cheyne Horan sure wasn't winning any World Titles on that funky arse McCoy back in the early 80's either
Whoa didn't realize how young this kid is. I thought we were talking a teenager. He looks like he's 8. Not saying he didn't deserve the dunking however. This thread actually brings up a pretty good question though. Who's to blame more... the kid or the parents? I find it hard to believe that anyone who surfs hasn't heard of proper etiquette. So in that sense, the kids to blame. But i mean i grew up on LI..... when i got my first board the first thing my mom told me was proper etiquette. And she doesn't even surf. Not being taught the right way from day one... living in California.... with a father who surfs (I'm assuming). That makes me want to blame the parents more than the kid.
I blame the parents, most 14-15 year olds are little sh!ts, it's natural. What isn't natural is to have mommy and daddy hovering over your shoulder trying to groom you for the WCT. Who knows how the kid would have handled the dunking if mommy wasn't filming on the beach and dialing 911. The kid could have taken it like a man but, as far as I could tell, he didn't get a chance bc mommy blew it out of proportion so quickly.
Groom for WCT? The kid is a WSL santctioned surfer with an average heat score of 4.50. And all it takes to do the QS is time and money. Seems daddy has high hopes for his less than average son. And with the current crop of kids his age or younger ripping 50 times harder, the kid is going nowhere. His dad's incompetence is being pushed onto his son and when his son is destined to fail it's gonna be messy.
mom has it but wont release it as it is 'evidence in an ongoing investigation' honestly, she should just release the footage and let the court of public opinion finalize its decision
Well, this family seems to go on the road whenever trouble finds them...which is often. Taking bets that Florida is their next stop. Kind of a shame, because I think it's great when the family goes all in when the kid shows a talent. Just not Todd Marinovich or Lonzo Ball parents
Todd Marinovich, former USC and Raider QB comes to mind. One sees a lot of parents living vicariously through their kids' exploits.
