Hey Guys! First off, I need to start with how happy I am to be a part of this forum and that I am looking forward to speaking with you all and hopefully finding answers to my problems. I've been surfing for almost 5 years now. I enjoy it very much, but honestly I'm quite tired of the local beaches around my town. So I would like to get around and, of course, take my board(s) with me. But I don't have a Pick Up. I own a Chevrolet Impala. That is why I would like to get a good surfboard car rack for my (three) boards. So this week I did a lot of research online and had a look at a few, well known trusted shopping sites as well as websites for classified adds like http://www.used.forsale/surfboard-car-rack. But there are so many racks available, I can't really decide which one to pick. So are there any peculiar brands or models you can recommend? What aspects are important if I want to buy a decent car rack? And how much I need to invest? The thing is, I really don't wont a soft rack. I saw some nice car racks by Curve as well as surfboard and SUP car racks by Thule, which are suitable for more than one board. Any opinion on that? Sorry for all these questions, but hopefully I can get some answers here. Therefore any feedback is highly appreciated. Linda.
there is a thule guy on here somewhere, or maybe its yakima trevie, who helped you? you should use the search function, there is a good thread on here somewhere step one: stop being retarded step two: use the search function step 3: success
As others have indicated, there have been a few discussions on this. No need to wait, the answers are likely already here. What's your price range? What year is the Impala, and are there any rack limitations/considerations due to roof design? As far as pads and straps, I have Dorsal which I bought from Amazon. They're all right.
Yakima and Thule are the big players and quality pieces. The door seals will likely be compromised some with the fit kits so expect wind noise and some water intrusion. Pay attention to load limits and spacing and tighten them to specs indicated and check often. The number of boards coming off of cars at speed is amazing. If you want to transport boards and gear you might want to look at a minivan with factory racks at least or an all wheel drive SUV/crossover. I have bought from etrailer and rackattack successfully. Good luck.
Yakima and Thule are okay, I've owned them both; but I prefer Rhino racks both for the cost and ease of installation. My Yaks have always been a pain in the ass to install, Thules are easier, Rhino's are easiest.
Ok Linda... Show me your rack and I'll show you mine. Cannot believe I was the first one to say this...

Call me old school, but I always liked these: https://www.amazon.com/Blocksurf-Hard-Gutterless-Model-Surfboard/dp/B00MV4T2ES They also make ones if you have 'gutters' on your car, just search amazon They are super easy when putting boards on- and much cheaper
