Waiting on a friend to come down and surf with us, who is currently running late. First we're gonna get some lunch and then go for a surf. Judging by the cams, it looks pretty damn good but very crowded. By the time we get surfing, it will probably be after 2:00 and the early arrivals for Memorial Day Weekend will probably be filling the lineup, if they aren't already.
eatswell, it wont be crowded at IBSP, I know its like 20 miles south of long branch, but it will have some empty peaks for sure
I don't. And I don't want them to be recruited to do so either. I am glad for people that don't surf. After all, who doesn't surf anymore?? Who?? Who??
basically everyone on the eastcoast doesnt surf more than 50% of the days of the year, and 25% of the time they do its grovelling to make themselves feel better about life.
Ashamed to admit but I have been this person before... although I'm stubborn and on several occasions stayed out for 1-2 hours in mid may in moco. Not sure if it makes it better or worse but I did surf year round at that point, but my only wetsuite was a 5 mil and I was too cheap to buy something else and decided I'd rather freeze than sweat my balls off. That phase didn't last real long though, 3/2 moved up my priority list pretty rapidly. Ironically, now I'm going through the same thing with wanting to buy a 4/3 but can't quite pull the trigger when I've already got 2 wetsuites... planning to paddle out after work this afternoon, pretty scared about the crowd situation, kinda feel like I'm getting ready to go off to battle.
The waves here suck right now. I would normally never say that as my time to surf is limited a I work two jobs. Even though my jobs are every flexible, I still like to surf when I can. Conditions be damned. Just paddling around in nothing keeps me in shape. It's just this time of year irks me. It's like a flood gate of idiots opened. Not just in the water, but at the Wawa, the gas stations, the idiot driving, stupid college drunks, agro rental cops, beach taggers that don't even have hair between their legs yet hassling people, and French Canadians. I find myself spending more time inland fishing for Largemouth and mountain biking in PA at this time of year.
All that being said, my youngest son and I are taking a mini road trip the week after the 4th of July down the mid-Atlantic. We are going to start at are local, take the CM-Lewes Ferry over to IRI, and camp out behind OC MD. Next stop will be TPTSNBN. After that VA Beach. Our final destination is, of course, Cape Hatteras/Frisco. Tent, sleeping bags, cooler, beer and whiskey for me, Gatorade for him, propane stove, bisquik, bacon, venison burgers, a lantern, snacks, first aid, bug repellent, a couple of small waves boards, and our fishing gear.
I will be PMing some of you dudes for local advise. On where to eat, where to camp, where to fish, and VERY general questions on the surf breaks.
Finally got out this afternoon. Short session. Wind was lateral to beach pretty choppy but had a few good ones anyway.
Had fun this morning in Northern Ocean County. No crowds, good size/form and clean with offshores. Good morning.
Some fun ones in OC today. Early on the winds were lighter but even after they came up, it was straight offshore at maybe 15 so no biggie. Surfed 3 hours...shot these early afternoon.
One of the popular local spots was packed... so I went down the beach and found a sandbar that was working pretty good. Head high sets and hollow, so I just started barrel hunting. A little warbly with the low tide, but that just made it more interesting. I had my shortboart set up as a quad, so I was sort of outrunning them at first. But once I started feeling it, I eventually pulled into a couple quick ones, then had one exceptional tube... a long, fast thumper that just kept sectioning ahead of me, each barrel section a little tighter then the last. That was the best wave of my afternoon, and the last barrel I got. After that it started getting a little smaller, and you could tell that the tide started filling in. I had it to myself for about two hours, before two other guys showed up. I'll start a thread for this one...
Yeah Lb. Down my way an hour before low till about 4:00 it was absolutely cranking. Long running headhigh makeable tubes. Only one peak was really doing it and there were 8 or so guys on it, but there was plenty to go around. Best sesh I've had in a while. Now it's 6:30 and you would never know it was going off earlier by the way it looks now. Waist high mush burgers.
glen carving it up...not oc tho, unless he was out there in am...As I was heading out, glen heading in. Funny seeing your pics. Nice pics by the way. Probably was surfing right next to you if you came out after the pics...cause the wind was howling when I was out. I swear everytime I have been out this past month, wind blowing offshore 20+.
