I went for a paddle on the LB and caught a few knee high dribblers. Nothing special but it was nice afternoon. A few people on the beach but water was empty.
o barry, I said I feel sorry for them not that I'm sorry that more of them don't surf. I think I can feel sympathy for non-surfing folks without wishing that more of them participate. They'll never know the things that you and I and others experience while surfing. Sucks to be them. Do I recruit them? Hell no! I'm selfish too and don't want any more morons in the water either. BTW, glad you finally got some today. Maybe you won't be so friggin' cranky for a little while
Some real fun ones this morning. Head high with some headlhigh + sets early. Surprised to see so many guys already in the water so early, every jetty had like 10 guys. Except my favorite secret Jetty.. no one out!! And peeling! Had the 10'4 LB out this morning...didn't think it was going to have the size plus high tide. Anyways- turned out to be tons of fun! Caught many many many waves- many nose rides and even 2 cover ups! Waves really reminded me of spring surfing season waves. Long Peeling waves... warmer water... and crowds lol a couple of guys paddled out a bit later saying 'I kept seeing you get all these waves" lol
Knee high at best this afternoon after work. Water was a little above 60, but "summer" has begun: lifeguards, no-surf zone signs, and the gawd-awful biting flies.
Wound up surfing with some friends for about 3 hours or so, but it really went from waist-chest high to pretty much flat in about a 45 minute span. Took a drive from another 90-ish minutes worth of surf, which wasn't as good as it had been earlier, but wasn't completely flat either. Not looking forward to the influx of Bennies. I hope they all get in without suites (since they don't own any) and freeze their balls off and get right the **** out!
Sounds very similar to my sesh too. I too have my own little spot that nobody really bothers with. And it breaks in both directions on basically all swell angles. Also traveled south to LBI where it was even better looking by mid AM. While up north though I pulled into a stand up head high+ barrel going left. Shot out of the pit so fast I flew over the handlebars. Not my favorite day, but definitely worth taking off for.
Just grabbed this shot of the Newport surf cam. I thought it was pretty cool and you guys might like it. Looks like there are waves, but I simply am not ready to deal with the crowds on the beach, etc. I think I'm going to just sit on my deck with a book and a beer. The surf can wait a bit.
I was there at 5am, 4th one in! 30 min later there were 50 surfers! still had a ball, it look like crap until the tide came up and then wham, nice 3-5'! afterwards I drove over to where this cam is, there were less people but you could easily feel the holiday weekend and summer approaching! I frigging hate crowds, do my Christmas shopping online! such a selfish sport!
pretty fun yesterday around MD. surfed up in Yankees neighborhood (NIRI) on Friday evening. looked back after the session and thought, "won't be surfing here again until November"!
I went for another long paddle on the LB at sunrise. Incoming high tide and glassy long little lines. I thought I saw a rideable one come through when I checked it but when I paddled out it wasn't really doing it. Nice morning though, clear skies and blinding sun. There was a dolphin and her baby feeding just feet from me. There was a tiny shark as well. Fish hoppin. Just no waves.
Had my first surf since 5/15 today, been fighting pneumonia that I thought I was more over. Negative, low-tide closeouts and shoulder to shoulder crowd at 6:30, coughing up a lung qnd feeling like i cant breathe in between every wave. Water's as cold as I remember it ever being this late in the year. Felt like it was under 60°. Usually I'm trunkin it by Memorial Day. Brain freeze duck dives and most wearing booties. Still, pulling into a racey left, squaring up, grabbing rail, and trying to beat the inevitable, the wave breaking right behind; letting go at that last second, to whip up the face and bounce off the white wash. best feeling ive had since i got sick happy Memorial Day Weekend everybody
Got on it early this morning. Really pretty looming waves. Waist to belly high with a few rouge guys pushing the chest high range (only saw maybe 3 of those). Super glassy. But unfortunately it was lacking some umph. Still a fun wave though. The lefts were sectioning off but i find it really fun to hit those sections so i was cool with that. Drop in, pump or two then hit the section. Or try and get around it but that wasn't really happening today. To long of a section would close. The rights were a bit softer on a day already lacking umph, but they didn't section off like the lefts. Well at least not the first wave of the sets or seemed. More cruisey drawn or cutback type of wave. If you were really into it you could connect to the inside and sore on the inside closeout. I made it a quick session since I'm on call and i hate the memorial day crowds. By 630 i could see it was going to start getting annoying and just left. Luckily i got in early and the crowd was spread out enough that i was able to enjoy the mornings waves. Saw a couple old faces and caught up. Fun morning and got perfectly into the schedule
Went out yesterday in south shore MA and it was kind of choppy and cold. Took the kids to 2nd beach this afternoon and a few guys were finding some waves but it was choppy seaweed stew. Looked fun enough but I think earlier was the call based on the cams. Toonces did you hit 2nd?
overhead in town today and no wind milk glass perfection. drove around like a dumbass to do a zone check because i could, but the beach in front of my house was best and turned on before dark. an instacrowd cadre of kooks from portland rolled up. 10 f u cking people all coming out at once. only 2 could surf adn they were still garbage. What the f u ck is wrong with people? Where in the world would you think its ok to paddle up 10 deep on 1 guy on a peak. Lucky for them im the nicest "local" (still got my guest pass still need like 30 years to be a heavy) and didnt say sh it to them. Most likeley cause they instantly got dragged past me by the rip and i was literally surfing circles around them. Touron season is in full swing even out here boys. But when its 6 feet at 10 on a beach brake (small) the tourons get pounded and ejaculated on by sealions.
Had a couple okay hours on the longbort yesterday. Nothing too fancy. Kinda crowded but not too bad. It will be worse when the water warms up and gets up into the 70's by 4th of July. Got flat again late in the afternoon.
