Another pertinent question would be when was the last time Slater was in 18th place, after 5 events into the year?
    Answer: Never

    Correction noted.
Which only confirms he is consistently slipping in contest performance and chances of another world title in the future are not good.

chances of a world title = not good

chances of staying on tour, surfing the contests he wants, and living the dream = very good

He could "live the dream" surfing anywhere in the world on his own accord at any time as a free surfer, if he chose to.
    He's there to win contests.

Worde. His life is "the dream." He owns houses on the north shore, gold coast, santa barbara and Fla.

I think it has more to do with him being preoccupied in recent years (business). I still think he is in the top ten best surfers in the world currently and with that, he still has a good chance of winning a title. But, age will eventually push him further from it...IMO I don't think it has yet. But yea...he is living a dream.

Being 40 something and apparently having back issues has more to do with it then business/side action etc.

Back issue always seems to flare up when it's time for Brazil.

really getting sick of the unfair scoring.i was watching a heat yesterday, think it was the Michel bourez heat, dont remember who he surfed against.just googled it he was up against matty wilko.

wilko did 2 solid turns and got a millisecond coverup barrel and got an 8.33
moments later Michel did the exact same thing, with a longer barrel and got a 6.5

idk what the phudge is up I just miss the days of taj, dean, slater, both irons bros, bobby, etc.
back then they actually ran contests when the waves were good and everyones dropping 9s and it comes down to the last 30 seconds.now u can win with a heat total of 8pts

Those two deathdrops remind me of the saying: "You gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette". Those were unmakable drops. But the one this year at Cloudbreak, it wasn't inside out, and he looked like most of the rest of us, mere mortals.

BTW, the Bleff is on the way , my wife finally bought some stamps.

That barrel ride of Bourez was about an 8 sec. tube ride, although it wasn't a clean barrel it was a 8 sec. barrel none the less, Bourez won the heat in my eyes, Wilko's ride was no where near the score he was given.
This year at Cloudbreak was kind of a yawner.

Maybe. Ever since GoPro IPO and the launch of OK, it seems that has really curtailed world title aspirations...his back not withstanding, or his age, I still think his abilities and competitiveness put him in the realm of top 10 in world...if he was fully committed I think he would have a solid chance. We all know after 40 Father Time starts to take over...I guess we will see what he does.
