I've seen the gnomes man, I've seen them! Anyone can see them if the right potion is ingested and Vigdis is laying naked by your side in a room illuminated only by firelight.
I need to get back there....

short term goal is 25 k a yr. That assumes buying a place outright so no rent\mortgage.

Which island did you hit? I have family that has gone there a few times to various islands, not so much for surfing and loved it. Short direct flight from Boston puts this high on my list.

Sao Miguel. It's amazing how relatively easy and cheap it is to get there and how so many people overlook or don't even know about them.

I always enjoy reading surf trip stories on here and seeing pictures. Despite being very envious of it, I do get off on the stoke of others. I also love the stories about picking up and relocating.

So I guess it's time to talk more about how ''I need to summer on Oahu'' because I basically am off work for almost all of May-early September, with the exception of a couple weeks. Every few months I kick around the idea. I don't have to be in Jersey during those months, save for a couple weeks in July. I make up for it by working 80-ish hour weeks from September-April.

My best friend also is in the same line of work and has time off. He lives/works out of California and then he comes to Jersey to visit me for the Summer and his 19 year old son who lives up here. His house is paid for, but he's made a deal with his brother that once he saves up $100K-$120K for a down payment, he will sell him his house and his brother will put that down for the down payment and the bank will loan him the rest. Since the house is paid off, he lets his brother live there rent free and it allows him to save money for the down payment. When he sells it to him, he should have over $500K in cash and I know he has a little more saved up in the bank, he makes quite a bit more than I do. He also had money from stocks in the past.

His new idea is to buy a condo on Oahu for us to spend our down time. That was my idea for the longest time, but I wouldn't be able to do it unless I sold my house here and then I'd still need some place to live in Jersey when I'm working in September-April. Whether it be renting or whatever. His idea is to maybe use the condo as a rental during the months we will be working and not using it, which should pay for the HOA feeds and taxes, etc. He'll obviously buy it in cash. I'm hoping to live that dream pretty soon. Been talking about it ever since my fiance and I split, but it looks like he might swoop in during the next year or two and get something. Just talking about it on here gets me stoked about it. I really love Oahu, but we've also thought that maybe we can find something cheaper in PR or CR or something? We'd like to stay in America or an American territory (PR).

Kinda ironic considering Slater had his boarts & gear stolen x3 when he was staying at North Shore for Pipe Masters
