Mitchell, once again you posted a great photo. That is a wave I would've loved to paddle for ! Today was a day not to be missed as we were celebrating one of the crew. The forecast was for glassy barely rideable waves, and that's what it was. The water was so clear you could see every sand grain on the ocean floor. We spotted a manatee, Ray, and a pod of jacks. There were some knee highs to be had and mostly ankle to shin highs, very short interval. The ocean was refreshingly cool for July, @80-82, zero wind, warm sunshine. I stood up on a shin high wave first, and the second wave I stood up on was a knee high fun one That was my best ride since this problem. . I popped up well and got a little floaty drop on the wave and rode it to the left. It was fairly shallow, so the ride ended somewhat quickly, but that will hold me all day. It was a real victory and wonderful to feel that floaty sensation again. It was cool to have the whole beach and ocean to ourselves, and on July 4th! ....Ambition..... Have a great holiday buoys!
Lots of people can maintain a healthy life and drink Yankee. Judging by the post on here, the alcohol may be magnifying key personality flaws.
Back to surfing treade, team; Mitchell, as always awesome pic; Bettye you embody Stoke......is that not ambition.....?!?
for the record yank your a major dude in my opinion and i enjoy our argumentative surf banter as much as the next guy, yes even barry. happy fourth dude hope you score some ocean time
I appreciate that, Trev; right back atcha, your Peru reports were superb & I looked forward to each installment. We are all, at the end of the day, Americans - - and that's a great thing to be able to say. Peace & dreams, of green & clean.
Glad a statie actually showed up and grabbed that dude! Too many people on the road this weekend to have people like that out there!! Glad ya scored yank!
I come from a family of alcoholics, I myself stopped drinking 30 years ago. I can say that alcohol is not healthy for anyone other than someone that can literally drink just one and stop. The way to measure whether you are an alcoholic or not is how you drink when you drink. If you get drunk or buzzed every time you drink even if it's once a week you have a problem. I can also guarantee that anyone who drinks a lot is more likable sober then drunk. The only people who like being around drunk people are other drunk people.
Probably told this story before, but it bears repeating. Many years ago, I worked with a bunch of ex-military guys around the Navy bases on San Diego. My bosses were all retired Chiefs. We were about to start a new contract, installing some super duper hi tech gunnery and computer systems at the submarine school on the tip of Point Loma. Because of the sensitive nature of the base and the equipment we were installing, we all had to complete a Secret security clearance. One of the questions was: Are you an alcoholic? So these guys were all sitting around discussing the question afterwards and one of the guys asked, "how much do you have to drink to be considered an alcoholic?". One of the other guys chimed in and said, "maybe a 6 pack? " The last guy, a retired Master Chief stated, "hell, a 6 pack wouldn't even get me started" and everybody laughed. Would you consider a 6 pack every single night after work "alcoholic" ?
other than the usual bunch of dolfins i saw on the beach yesterday at Folly, i did see one suspicious creature lurking in the line up. about 20 ft away from me (i was the closest to it) and five feet behind the usual lineup line was in my eyes a gator. my buddy caught a glance of it and mentioned it could be a ray. it's head was about 3-4 inches out of the water, moving at a real slow pace, and i saw a long snout, nose. rarely we get gators in Sullivan's and IOP - other side of Charleston. but if anything looked close to a gator, that was it. i told the fam next to us of what i saw (they were locals), but i didn't relay to the 20 or so surfers down the block. went back in after a beer on the beach. did get to see some solid several fly-overs which are always suite on the 4th, catching thi to waist and rare chest glassy waves yesterday
Flat again this morning, so I went for bike ride. As I rode, myriads of Massholes (MA plates on vehicles) driving around with multiple boards on vehicle roofs. I had to laugh--the one week they get off to surf, and it is FLAT!!! I can hear the conversation inside the vehicles: "Dad, surfing sucks!! There never are waves!!!" "Shut up brat!! Eat your Dunkin Donuts fat food!! Were are going in the water whether you like it or not!" " I don't wanna surf!! It is always flat!" heh, heh....I love this week; makes me feel all warm and fuzzy to know that parents are forcing surfing on their kids--the sure method of ending a fad!! And quickly.....
Yes, I sure would. of course there are people thag consume a lot more than that, but still I would say that meets the criteria. I have a doctors office at work and there is a poster that defines it as 15 drinks or more a week for a man. No idea who came up with that statistic, but if your averaging 42 drinks a week, your body is making some adjustments for all that alcohol and your liver would probably love a break. My 2 cents anyway
Im in northern OBX, and although its tiny and weak, a good sandbar and favorable winds have allowed me and two of my daughters to surf each day for the last 3 days. Not complaining. So fun seeing kids get their first rides!
Well, it's officially too flat for even my scrawny butt to bodysurf. Therefore, them waves hadda go somewhere. Surf can neither be created nor destroyed. It just changes locations.* Therefore, somebody's finna git some. I'll be resting up and waitin til it comes back here. * the exception being wave pools, I reckon... unless Slater done stole the surf from someone's break... thievin surf bandito
This morning was actually pretty decent in OCMD. There were some 3ft peaks--lefts and rights. No one else was out. It was/still is worth tne paddle out if you are reading this and wondering. Summer is here and who knows when there will be swell again.
Nearly flat here, maybe a knee high line out there at lower tide. Might check it out later if wind doesn't blow it apart this afternoon. Might get a little bump into the thigh high range, can't wait...
I am about to lose my ever lovin freakin frakkin mind. Please...TD 4 - send me something that resembles an actual drop.
So, the FUcast for OCMD & TPTSNBN has been downgraded several times just in the past 9 or so hours. Wind has stayed consistently good in the FUcast (miracles!) but the swell is roll-the-dice. Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Just got back from a week in California this evening. It was a business trip early on, but I extended my stay a few extra days to spend time with some friends and spend a couple days surfing and just hanging out. Surfed most of those days. Only got to surf for an 1-2 hours the first few days, then spent Tuesday and Wednesday surfing for a good 6 hours each day. Did Manhattan Beach, El Porto, Seal Beach and The Wedge in Newport Beach. Some days were better than others, but there was something at least waist-ish high to be had every day I was there. Luckily I was well conditioned for them, after the really consistent May and June we had at home in Jersey. Pretty happy with the trip and glad I spent an extra few days there, even if I had to sleep on a couch and ate more than I'd like to. Hoping for a couple of nice days here, before I have to work for a week next week, before resuming my break for another 8 weeks.
fun session this afternoon. Weather was unsettled/side shore breeze/showers and then cleared out mid afternoon. The west wind and incoming tide made for a great Friday late afternoon session. 2 foot with a few waist high. I think Friday afternoons are probably my favorite times to surf. Really caps off the work week and sets up the weekend. shot of my bud.
