There is no such thing as Performance Surfboard Fins. All fins are the same.

You probably won't even be able to tell the difference between expensive fins and the plastic ones.

    ; )

Luckily these were free, so they don't get an cheaper.

    1) I'm pretty intrigued by that. Have you used them yet? How's it work?

    2) In most cases a would agree that expensive fins won't feel much diffrent from cheap ones. I feel template and size play a much bigger role than material. For instance, i really like the rob machado thruster set. But i don't think it's because of the bamboo or whatever. I think its the fact that it has a smaller center fin. Get that same template and size in the cheap version and is bet they feel the same. At least to average Joes like myself.

    3) i like your garage. Two weed whackers and a drill press. Any garage with a drill press is a good garage. Looks like you can get some serious work done on there

I know a guy who rips and likes the cheaper, lighter, fins because they are bendy.
I stink so it doesn't matter. Those free fins cost a lot, and the little red nubster is a ripoff. That is a weird-looking fin setup, but never judge a book, i mean board, i mean fin setup by its cover. Some beautiful boards do not work, and some cool looking fins, so maybe that kooky looking fin setup will be great.

I think the design came from windsurfing. The nubster (as someone else said) is garbage tho.

Gaff, interesting setup. Would be interested in hearing about how it works for you.

The dims on the board would be nice to have too.

Someone who sells boards gave me these fins about 2 years ago. I've used them many times. I've run them as quads, or quads + 1, yeah nubsters, or a twin with some kind of trailer setup. They work best in waves with some size and power.

Most fins are a compromise. You sacrifice some small bit of paddling speed for increased surface area. You lose some hold through the apex of a turn with increased flexibility and cant. You gain hold through increased size and rigidity of material, but lose speed and flexibility. The best thing about these is that you don't feel like you are compromising anything. Usually when I have a fin with as much surface area as these, it feels like I'm dragging ass. These feel like small fins when paddling, but big fins when you press against them. Think PAWG.

And nubsters are great. They're like running any other trailer, only a little smaller. Any interruption in the flow of water of water is going to change how the board rides. it might be subtle, but it's there

The FCS glass flex material is great because yes, it's very flexible. I like it for center fins on thrusters. The Futures modern Thermotech material is terrible for the most part, because it's so rigid. The old stuff is closer to glass flex.

I have a bag of these in FCS somewhere...

Wrong, i said ripoff, as in expensive for how small, but i have a nubster in my 5-box with quads. Not garbage. Good. I also like the weird design as a twin with nub to cool it out.

Ah! I misunderstood. Totally agree. I've never paid retail for one, but they're a very small amount of fiberglass and resin for $20-25
