Timing is everything. Lost some $$$ during the recession, but it also opened up opportunities. I consider myself fortunate to have taken advantage of a couple. Honestly, probably not because of my skills. Just timing.
Definitely true! I launched mine in 2009 officially. I went out of business in 2013 though, only because I got another job in between that time in 2011. Which is seasonal and what I still do now. I just didn't have time to run my own business in the months that I work the job that I got in 2011. I was doing my own thing full time in 09-11 and then part of the time through 2012. I sacrificed a lot of money because of it, but I love what I'm doing now. If it weren't for my best friend (who also got me this job) being my roommate, I probably would be struggling to pay all my bills with my current job though. I guess I was too. It was worth $800k+ before the bubble burst, I got it for $535K. It's supposedly worth $675K or something right now, according to the zestimate on zillow.
Definitely love the stability of not having to move. With my job, I spend a lot of time traveling. I sleep in hotels enough as it is, during my busy season. I love being able to sleep in my own bed. I bought this house with the purpose of getting married to my then fiance and having a child. Now it's just me and my best friend here and my other best friend comes in the summer. And my two nephews are here on weekends. Because moving is torture, I'm staying the course and staying in my house I have now. Until I can no longer afford it or until I am able to move somewhere that's worth it. *Cough* Oahu *Cough*. So for now, I'm staying put in Manasquan. I joke about moving to Leisure Village or some other 55+ community in 9 more years. My house will be paid for and I'll be 55 and able to move into one haha. Good luck on your retirement in 2.5 years though! Cape May is hell of a place to retire to, if you have to stay in Jersey.
Never minded moving really, always felt like a new adventure. I feel as comfortable cruising on the 5, 15, and the 101 as much as the 95, 295, and 195. I think the winters on the EC will not be great for my health in general as arthritis settles in. I'm already feeling it, can't imagine twenty years from now. I hope my kid looks at California colleges, that will probably be my last move.
Kennebunk, ME Portland, ME San Francisco, CA Cape Coral, FL Scarborough, ME Gaeta, Italy Rijeka, Croatia San Diego, CA Miss Maine, enjoying California, sick of Europe.
Eastern Shore or West? I grew up in Southern MD. Pax river area. If there was ocean access there I would have never left. It was quaint and the vibes were pretty mellow. Now residing in the dirty jersey. I actually like it here too. Surf is decent, not great, not awful. Pretty central to a lot of different things to do. Definitely more diversity. But, I do miss being home every now and then. Now where I end up I am unsure. I don't know that I'll be here forever. Might move out west one day or push further south. Wanting to be close to family kind of puts a hold on going west. For now I'm content enough.
No offense, but had I been forced by parents to live in Nashville....I would have blown my brains out with a shotgun. And I would still have more brains left than 99.9% of the population there.....
Barry, I always start laughing when you preface your posts with "no offense" - - cause here comes the Barry bombardier blasting run
I would really like to live in Melbourne. You just can't beat the weather, waves, fishing, low cost of living, proximity to the beach and major cities. Plus most of my family is scattered all over Florida.
