as i sit here in the desert of eastern oregon on a dead fire baking in 105 degree weather, its time for me to think about how to spend some of the thousands of dollars of tax payer dollars they are wasting on me weekly to sit in my truck and play gameboy or fuc k around on the internet. this leads me to think about my surf travels this winter, which leads me to think about having multiple options for getting boards in foreign lands. recently ive been doing the buy and sell while there option but i would like to have an option to bring my own boards for quick carribean tactical missions or extended trips to places like the Philippines where finding boards is troublesome my problem is that even the coffin bags i have dont offer the protection from overzealous airline baggage handlers or the rigors of dirt ratting through the third world. anyone know of a HARDCASE boardbag, preferably with straps for backpacking? thinking about making one myself but i have all this disposable tax payers money to spend so i might as well treat myself.
Santa Monica surf case. You can find them for cheap on Craig's, but the old ones tend to favor the thin elf shoes made in the 90s.
I think there's a reason that there's not a lot of hard case bags out there...they're frickin heavy as hell. ProLite makes a wheeled coffin that's supposed to be the best. I've had excellent luck with my old Balin wheeled coffin, never had any flight issues. And it's pretty focking heavy too. Too much to go lugging around much more than the airport, and even then it was a royal pain in the ass. Currently using a ProLite Rhino, which has been a lot better than expected. But it's a 10mm soft bag.
Just saw a hard case for sale on my local CL while looking for a board for another dude on here. Didn't catch the price and have no idea how durable it is though. Check around in your area. Might find something cheap
think im gonna go with santa monica case and bolt some straps to it. fully loaded its like fourty five pounds and i pack around all summer for work with about a hundred plus on my back so weight will only be a problem with airline restrictions
Why not just use a coffin? A real coffin--tell them it's your long departed crazy uncle....we all have one.
nautilus makes one too. I found both Santa MOnica and the nautilus run about the same cost as a quality coffin bag like the dakine world traveler, so i guess whatever floats your boart http://www.hungrywalrus.com/2013/01/21/adventure-board-case-nautilus/
