I know the Rodanthe Pier is flipping out. Its not a long trip for tourists from Nags Head north to day trip to the piers in Rodanthe and Avon to go fishing yet they can't go. Last I checked fishing did not require electricity. The mandatory evacuation is just plain stupid.
Seems stupid on the surface, but if you let in "day trippers" what's to keep out those wanting to stay for a longer term? ...and how do you make them leave at the end of the day? I think they had to draw the line somewhere, and this is the best line they can draw. (and enforce) I know the businesses down there are hurting. I'll try to help fix that come fall.
They probably had it pretty good this morning. The thing is you can't pick and choose who goes across. The volume of tourist is substantial. No gas station functions etc. it would be a (as my good friend from Montclair would say) complete sh@t show. Class action lawsuits are flowing against contractor...but they can't stop mid construction and switch contractors...it will be interesting to see how this plays out
Surf has been pretty fun the last three days. Yea up here in nags head it's been busy as hell. Lots of water rescues at work too. New update. Power should be restored within 3-5 days as of today but we'll see how that goes.
Ocracoke, Hatteras reopening to visitors following power restoration http://wavy.com/2017/08/03/hatteras-island-reopening-to-visitors-friday-at-noon/
yea, i'll be there in September too. only a measly two days but i'll try for Hatteras, possibly make time for Ocracoke (thought i heard of ppl surfing there). it'll be a first to OBX, so i'll start a thread for suggestions in the short time frame. Hopefully no one lost their business in that time frame- and if they did, power to them for trying to coup via lawyers
take a little more time for ocracoke than yu think its quite the little side trip with ferries not that bad but if yu only have 2 days for outer banks it will mean a lot of hours traveling instead of surfing
yea, i was kinda thinking that too. especially when we're talking about fishing one day. i'll visit again the next year. was kinda bummed with two days. one night in Wilmington before tho to cut the driving time(OBX 8 hrs from hither)
^^^^ I absolutely love the OBX. You'll want to go back. In the back of my mind i keep thinking about moving there, i just think I'm to much of a "new yorker" to make that move. But who knows what the future will bring. Anyway enjoy your stay and if you got any questions PM me. I'm sure there are locals who will be a better source of info but i know the area pretty damn well being as i go down at least once a year
hey boys final update. Power is back all the way through and everyone is allowed back on. Stoked the system is back up and running. Y'all are still more than welcome to PM whenever about coming down to surf. Cheers Andy
