these confederate generals were not leaders of our country. they were treasonous traitors who fought against the united states of america in an effort to support the continuation of slavery.
No, if you have been following along, I have said Sharia Law and extremism is the problem, not ALL Muslims.
From my perspective, these men were leaders of the CSA, not the USA. They chose to fight against our country. While I agree that it's important to preserve history, I see no need for monuments to the losing side of a treasonous war against the USA.
You're entitled to your opinion. I'm not someone who flies the Rebel Flag but I don't have a problem with those who do. It's touchy subject for some but It's part of our history as a Nation. Like or not. You can look at it any way you wish, but let's don't go toppling monuments that have been in place for a long time. This recent outcry is nothing more than the alt-left throwing a temper tantrum. It's funny because most of the people involved weren't even alive for any of this, but they're just SOOOO outraged all of a sudden.
again with the childish name calling. whatever. anyway, please show me where i have clearly stated that i am in favor of taking down these monuments. i'll wait right here. i am not condoning destroying the monuments. as i said, i feel it is a local issue and should be just that. what happened in charlottesville this past weekend was not a local thing.
that's a bit presumptive on your part but, no, i wouldn't. it's not that important to me. now, i'm still waiting for you to show me where i have clearly stated that i am in favor of taking down these monuments.
^^^ Those two posts right there tells anybody with a brain what side of the debate you are on. Yeah you said it should be a local thing, but the fact that you think it should be a thing at all is what's wrong. Let the moments be and stay away from history books while you're at it.
At best you could say that both sides bear responsibility for the violence that occurred, but there is no moral equivalency here. One side is racist, and spouting chants such as "Jews will not replace us" and saying the city is run by "communist jews and criminal niggers", and the other side is protesting these views. If this critical distinction eludes you, then I feel sorry for you.
wow, you like to read a lot into my posts. i clearly did not state that i am in favor of tearing these statues down. i am merely pointing out that your argument that these things should remain as some sort of history lesson is stupid. as to the"local thing", if some town decides they don't want to have a statue or monument or whatever and would like to take it down are you saying that they have no right to? they need to leave a symbol of racist oppression in their town square whether they like it or not? because it's history?
Are you always this dumb or just on Wednesdays? The people who showed up with baseball bats and helmets were looking for a fight, period. If you want to peacefully protest, that's one thing, but when you show up looking to fight, that's another.
I didn't have to read far into your posts at all to get what you believe. You're doing it again right now. You're obvious disdain for our history as a Nation jumps off the page. You're just trolling or stupid, I can't figure out which one. Ok yes I can.
Call it what you want. Also, when I said that originally I also was including all of the delegates who were slave holders, of which there were many (that's what I meant by Founding Fathers and leaders of our country). My point was to keep it all in context, which clearly so many people are not.
