I second the sentiment. I'm loading up them IBPros today. It was an overcall I'd say for at least the AM, def not 5-7' where I was but I think that was more to do with the lowere tidee. Once the mid-tide came around ie 1030-11 we saw chest to shoulder with sometimes bigger sets. This seemed to peak just before high tide around 100 and then it was a slow fizzle until about 300. I'm usually of the mindset that hurricane swell is overrated compared to the noreasters because typically they send too much power that our beach breaks just can't handle. I'd say Gert was like a Goldilocks porridge, not too big, not too small, just right.
Couldn't agree more. Gert gave us swell in the 9-10 second range which is actually on the high end of what my local break can hold. Any more than that and it's all closeout barrels. Gertilocks
Sounds aboot right... overhead in the morning, chest to head in the afternoon. The morning wasn't so big it kept people out of the water, but big enough to see a lot of guys letting the biggest ones go by. I know I officially got my sh!t handed to me once. Took a left on the first wave of a set then took about 8 on the head after that... board ripped out of my hands... feeling my leash stretch... getting bounced off the bottom... Good times.
Yesterday RI was the place to be for the far Northerner. Super fun building surf all day. Got multiple overhead lefts for a hundred yards.
Was up in your neck of the woods yesterday. Was unable to surf (college visit for son) but managed to watch for a bit. Definately some thumpers. Needless to say i was bummed i couldnt surf.
your crazy if you think that swell was all hype... Bethany beach was straight pumping overhead glassy barrels sweeping right. long in and outs all day. gotta try more spots. better luck next time!
Ah yous guys should know NJ scored all timers on this swell Man Barry though or fought people from NY and NJ would drive to Ruggles Blasphmy...Barry ain't been around the block as many times as he claimed I got some flicks of waves that were 100% OH yesterday
Also, if you have insta just type in #hurricanegert there's more than a handful of quality shots and footy.
