I know its not health advise...but sometimes theres some decent travel advise on here too... Anybody ever spend some time in New Zealand? Looking to leave one island for another.
Never been, but most of what I do hear about New Zealand is good. Except for the earthquakes........ If you do it, best of luck to you. I think I would do it were I single, at least for a year or two, then decide whether to stay or not.
few buddies went there for a 1 month trip a few years back .They said it was awesome . but the last week they discovered a street named Baldwin . They mentioned something like it was the steepest street in the world . They all came back with road rash , bad road rash too . Those dumb @sses went down that street with skateboards and spent their last three days licking their wounds before the long flight home .
Haha earthquakes?!? I grew up in northern California so I don't mind a little rattle and shake every now and then. Im not single, but the girlfriend is the one that sparked the interest. So obviously she's coming with. She's from the nh like you Barry.
Then get going, man!! And don't forget to send us pictures once you get there. Especially of your girlfriend!! hahahaha!! Have a good one, mike!
Will do Barry. Minus the girlfriend pics part. Gotta work the winter here, then planning to go around march.
I have a work visa to go there but I'm passing it up because I rejoin the military and I'm going to make a lot of money and end up living in Hawaii so I guess it's the next best thing. It won't cost much to fly down there
Go. Beautiful country, beautiful people and tons of surf options. You'll never regret going, you will regret not going.
I've been twice for trips over the last few years. I looked into it a few years ago, their immigration requirements are quite strict. They only really want people with skills that are in demand, like doctors, etc. Maybe you could get a temporary work visa though, I'd look up the government website for the details
Have fun! I lived there for 2 years, one of my better decisions in this life. There is surf everywhere, literally. On the Tasman side, overhead 350 days a year. Beautiful country, beautiful people.
I wonder what real estate is like over there and in Australia? Could be a cheaper offseason destination for me than my dream of Oahu. The only problem is that I know that our Summer is their Winter, which their Winter's aren't as cold as our Winter's. I don't really dig surfing in cooler temps and lots of rubber in June-August though.
Yeah i have heard nothing but good things. Seems the temporary visa is easy enough to get. Thanks for the info. I am actually looking forward to cooler climate, seems I've been in the tropical heat going on 8 years. Time for something different, and hopefully uncrowded waves and decent snowboarding.
I got by with a springsuit in their Fall with no problem in the north, no biggie. It's expensive (like hawaii) for food, gas (liters!), etc. Plus the whole opposite driving thing threw me for a few days until I got used to it.
