Jose looks to stay pretty far out from land from the new forecast models. should send swell the week after irma hits your East Coast beach
http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at2+shtml/145735.shtml?cone#contents This is a loco storm. Reminds me of Jeanne 04, it did a wind up and then a surprise kapow east coast of florida. Seems like it is sending swell to east coast next weekend.
That storm is sending waves to the EC right now, may be a few days to get there. figure out distance to say Folly Beach 1300 Miles, divide by 40mph (speed of waves at 10 second period)=32.5 hours. However, bottom drag will cut a lot of that speed off once on continental shelf to 20 mph; that adds 16 hours aprox, so I say 48 hours to Folly about. How did I figure mileage?? Easy. Use lat/long quadrants. There are 360 degrees. Each quadrant lat and long has 5 degrees, then each degree is 69.2 miles (earth circumference is 24901.) Use H = square root of a2+b2 to calculate aprox mileage (hypotenuse of right angle). High school stuff. We should all be able to do that. Unless we is all morons........duh.... See what happens when I have a glass of wine with lunch??
Tomorrow is supposed to be 5-8+ with ligh offshore. I haven't thought about surfing at all for several days, not sure what to do with myself now that the storm is over.
I know you're in a totally different situation but it's been overhead here for the past 3 days and I haven't considered surfing either . Tomorrow looks super fun in the morning so I'll definitely get on it then and this whole next week looks incredible. It's been the best 2+ full weeks (including this week) of surf I can recall in a long, long time. Hope this one stays offshore though!
