Sometimes a longboard is the right call, especially on the east coast. If you surf tiny days on a shortboard and get upset b/c you aren't getting as many waves as the longboarders, that's your problem. That said, there are some annoying wavehogs out there who don't know how to share. **** them. Back on topic, this dude is def not the biggest kook on the planet. He's out there having fun. Sometimes you get dropped in on, sometimes you're the one dropping in.
Honestly. Yeah the guy dropping in was wrong. Well established. But to throw that move there was ridiculous. WHAT if he came down on the guys head? Skegged him in the skull? The beginner doesn't know any better. A pro surfer should. Go ahead an explain to me how rob kelly is such a nice guy? Congrats rob. You embarrassed a beginner surfer then posted about it. Insecure much?
I met Rob Kelly. He seemed like a nice kid. I've met most of that Nub TV crew. Ben, Andrew, etc. They all seemed OK to me. The only one I've ever been in the water with was Gesler. He seemed to dig the chill vibe at my break and didn't try to stand out of anything. But there also wasn't any cameras there and the swell wasn't much that day as I can recall. However, when the cameras are there and we have swell like we've had the past couple weeks, the game changes for these guys. These guys live, breath, and eat surfing. So when you combine that with the fact that 99.9 percent of the guys surfing around here just do it as a recreational activity in their spare time, you are going to get some (mostly) minor conflicts and some animosity from both sides. Pros versus Joes if you will. Not that big of a deal. It happens every Fall.
This thread and the info in it proves exactly what I have been saying since I signed on: ALL SURFERS ARE MORONS. No exceptions. Next.....
nah i saw the biggest Kook on the planet coming out of the water Thursday and the end of my street in SNJ. he literally had a full suit with hood and booties.
Yep, there was a guy out near me in Strathmere who had on what looked like a 5 mil with hood but he had the hood off.
K... So it would be hard to guess that the dude was going to fall backwards and put his head in harms way. Doubt Rob would do it if he expected that. Explain how he's a nice guy? Ok. I've only chilled him a hand full of times (friends of friends) and he was cool when I did. Hard to imagine him being agro. And from Rob's IG page.... "That guy is not a kook. He's a local OC surfer and a friend of mine. Just a funny clip that's all" WSL posted it
Last week at the Juno Pier, I was riding my LB in waist high leftovers ,and I dropped in (intentionally) on a SUPer who was getting too many set waves, and another longboarder dropped in on me at the same time, and we almost touched rails but I cut back a bit, the SUPer ate it because I stuffed him. During the lull, the LBer paddled over and asked me why I didn't step off onto his board, I said I was thinking aboot it but had a leash on. We both cracked up. The funny thing was, the day before the same thing happened when the swell was bigger, shoulder high plus, and a soft top popped up randomly in a total opposite direction than the wave - I was going right on my fish, for a few seconds, getting ready to do a turn, and out in front of me the dude goes left right at me and falls, and if I wasn't wearing a leash I would have jumped on his log and rode it all the way in. My friends saw it from the beach and said the guy was lost. Didn't know which direction to go on any given wave. But he had a big ole smile on his face. LOL
