i don't think so. I don't follow WSL religiously tho i do follow a lot of sports very well. I still can't manage to put surfing as a sport in my mind, still think it's a hobby. I don't think WSL will lose any viewers with these girls being the best. I haven't heard yet of a female surfer that was talked up outside of surfing circles like Kelly Slater. Still think we are waiting for that one to dominate and make a lasting impact on everyone, which is a rare thing for sure. I hope that girl does come soon, cuz there are a lotta great female surfers right now not even competing just in the water every day and i would love for them to find that idol like a lotta surfers see Slater as

It's great that lots of girls are surfing for fun and not worrying about the competing side. They seem to have a lot of fun and many just look like they are doing it to get in the ocean and have a good time not taking it too seriously.

i think having a professional female surfing ldol (on the level of Slater with all of the marketing that comes with) will draw more of them into surfing for the wrong reasons - hero worship, coolness factor, making it competitive. I guess im a caveman, but don't want to be surfing around a bunch of 8th grade lens-hound girls prowling the lineup trying to impress someone.

Case and point of what exactly? That you are a self-righteous douche that thinks that anyone who disagrees with your supposed all knowing point of view is a caveman? That we have to resort to name calling when we challenge you in debate yet you call me and DPSUP cavemen? Did you even listen to what his point of view on women surfers is? You made your opinion on this topic and others disagree with you (I actually don't disagree with you on this topic, I just find you to be a very annoying person) So, don't go away mad little boy, just go away.

My take on pro female surfers:
I don't really follow the pro tour anymore and don't really care but:
Both make and female surfers have to be athletic, hard working, and dedicated to their craft to get to the top. It really doesn't matter what they look like but how well they perform. However, like in any sport or pretty much throughout any entertainment industry (think music, Hollywood, etc.) those that are pleasing to the eye may garnish more viewers, more controversy, more clicks, more money. Unfortunately, that's the society we live in, the reality. I don't buy into it, but obviously, millions do.

I remember when a when there was a thread like this we all had fun talking about women, hot and ugly, just for the fun of it. While I still think that what a female pro surfer looks like doesn't matter at all as long as she rips, I also think that all this self-righteousness (on many sides ) is ridiculous and we need to focus on what is truly important: banging hindus of all shapes, heights, and careers.

Horrible parenting. Instead of teaching them to surf, they should be encouraged to stay home and cook while they wait for their boyfriend/hubby surfs a late evening session and have a nice family meal on the ready. Very important role women have, lets keep this going.

    See
This is where you lose me. First of all, you don't mind your own business if you are always compelled to "call out caveman thinking", that's the opposite of minding your own business now isn't it? I could of ended that line with a good ole fashion zinger but I'll save my insults for the worthy (Stank where you sum at you sum b*tch)

2nd I'm not a right winger, I'm a registered independent and don't like the establishment. I vote Republican more than not but that's about it. 3rd I don't try to convert anybody to anything, as I believe in the you do you way of life. I'll do me. Lastly, snowflake isn't a term I'm known for using, although it's fitting.

I love this thread. It's like old SI (lighthearted man-banter) meets new SI (political butthurt).

Can we lose our inhibitions and have fun againe?

"you sound like a caveman" is what I said, attacking what was said, not the person. There is a difference.

You can disagree with someone and still not have a problem with them as a person. DP and I disagree about a lot of stuff, but from what I have seen, he is a decent dude. My problem is with something someone says not them as a person. Hence why I never resort to name calling, just my line of thinking.

But you guys call out the leftist crap you don't like all the time? Why am I not allowed to call out the overt machismo talk when I see it? You say you mind your own business yet your posts are all over this site calling out liberals for ruining our country. Why the double standard?

a lot of conjecture and buzzwords in there....but essentially all you're saying is "it's always been this way so don't try to change it."

Sorry, I just don't agree with that logic. If the way it's always been is good enough, then nothing would ever improve.

You guys take me wayyy too serious. I've told you before, a lot of the time I just like to play devil's advocate because these threads tend to just turn into echo chambers.

Not to change the subject, but I was wondering where Archy went? I miss that guy...

I will retaliate when fired upon but I don't go picking fights with liberals. I'm not sure who "you guys" are but I'm my own person. The difference is voting gives us the power to change what we don't like. That happened this last election, it won't be easy but change is underway. As for calling out "caveman behavior", how much change have you gotten from people by barking up their tree? Just wondering, cause that's where I see the difference. If you call a bunch of people out but nothing changes, then you have wasted energy and looked like a tool doing it.
