First time going to Barbados staying on south side of the island "silver sands" in Christ church. Any tips , suggestions, guidance is greatly appreciated. Prayers and thoughts to all of Puerto Rico.
super jelly over here, i'm hoping to go in the first few months next year. from what i remember when i did my hours n hours of research, you picked a good spot as long as you don't jet too far to the east - kinda sharky, rocky on the lower east end. to the west, def hit the fish mkt once if not every day. lotta reef breaks i hear so expect that. i hear there's no DUI, so let me know bout that cuz that'd be suite if it's true. bars n a couple breaks are right south of Bridgetown (also heard there's a popular roundabout there that wants to replace the Admiral Nelson statue with a statue of Rihanna, so be sure to bring all yer Rihanna tour shirts to look like a local). i didn't see too much ppl talking up the West Coast, but the south coast appears to break consistent and of course the upper East coast with their popular breaks. too far up north on the west coast, cliffs n a little sharky up there too. one part of the island is always delivering i've read, so def get a car for the whole trip - island's small. and drink a lotta rum. def let us know when you get back for a proper report, i'm curious if my research is accurate and need an update on this place cuz it sounds right up my alley. Good luck
I will copy and paste this--my post in PR thread: "Barbados should be nice. But consider this---given that no tourists will travel to PR, Virgin Islands, Tortola etc, Dominica, St Martins, etc....where do you think all them tourists want to go?? Barbados is a major choice now--very crowded and very expensive. Truth be told, this winter, Central America, or even Hawaii would be a better choice. just opinion."
I hope your wrong. After one of those winter travel threads, I set my sights on Barbados - heading there with two friends in feb. I don't know if everyone and their mother is suddenly going to up and head there because PR and some of the other islands are momentarily out of commission. From all the stuff I've read thus far, I have a feeling there are plenty of breaks that are uncrowded and have some size, it's just a matter of getting to them. A car is definitely the way to go from what I'm seeing as well.
The reason PR is so popular with us gringos is bc you don't need a passport. You'll need one for Barbados and that will reduce the flow of displaced touristas that don't have passports.
Well, we can certainly hope all the tourists go to CR or Nica, but those destinations do not figure high on non-surfers, except with the yoga sluts. Maybe they will all go to Mee-ah - mee!!
Barbados is great. I've stayed at the Silver Sands resort you are talking about. Loved it. But it's much more of a kitesurfing destination than just surfing. It is one of the most windward of islands of the Caribbean and as a result, it's tough to find consistently clean surf. Unless you are going to kite, you'll probably have better luck scoring some place else.
Definitely rent a car. Get a "moke". It's like a super charged go cart. No roof, plastic bucket seats. You'll love it. Check out Oistens fish fry on Friday night . Check out St. James Gap for nightlife. Go to Zeds on the south coast for surf rentals and the local 411. You'll probably wanna surf Brandon's, freights, south point. Drive to Bathsheba to surf the Soup Bowl, or the north coast for Duppies. Barbados is posh and British. Very low rate of scumbaggery, but don't leave valuables out where they might temp those with low moral character.
Heard on the news yesterday how many are rerouting their Caribbean travel plans to Barbados. The touron clans are uniting.
