. . . are legends in their own minds. If you don't like the crowds, then why not quit surfing which will in turn leave more waves for the rest of us, longboard or otherwise. If you follow standard wave protocol, and everyone else does as well, then all will be right with the world. Remember, it's about wave selection, and above all else, positioning and the correct attitude. Trust me when I say, your longboard days still lie ahead of you.

You have to have patience "grasshopper." Even "Kane" knew that.

Next time your out in the water why don't you try being cool, maybe even shooting the $hit with a longboarder or bodyboarders, you might meet someone you like despite that horrible fact that they don't ride the same shaped or material board you do.

 

so your saying that every person that doesnt live at a particular beach can't travel there when the swell is good and get a piece of it?

one of the great things about surfing is travel. i'm sure you've been somewhere that your not a local and expected to get a good share of the waves....give everyone else the same "RESPECT", cuz thats what we're talkin about here right?

You sound like a kook yourself there buddy. I'm a bodyboarder and I have to say your comment was pretty lame. There is plenty of beach so if you dont like a certain spot go find another break. If you are a so called "local" you should know of more then one spot. More likely then not your just another PA transplant that vacationed at the beach during the summer, but hey that makes you a local. Whatever you gotta tell yourself.

 

theres so many kooks picking up longboarding, I feel like im oldskool riding a shortboard.
what pisses me offf about longboarding is, no one i see does it right. i walk my 6'4 more then the londboarders around here. no style at all, and isn't that what longboardings all about....

 

Overpopulation

It all has to do with the overpopulation in NJ and the huge rise of the sport over the last ten years. Appreciate the crowds today, because it will only get worse in the future.

your all insain???? i have never had a problem with crowds? when its real surf, its on. the crowds are in the knee hi surf when you should be doing something better with your self or you don't know where to look.GET A CLUE! the local crew around here knows where to go and how to get it.

 

There just as many shortboarders that lack respect as there are longboarders. The only difference is a longboard hurts alot more when it hits you in the back of the head because some kook can't hold onto his board. When I see someone who doesn't know what they are doing with a longboard I stay far away because that board becomes a torpedo when they ditch it. There's plenty of open beach during the winter in Jersey, go find some. Darealm is right, it's overpopulation of NJ and the promotion of the sport through the media which is crowding the beaches. Nothing you can do about it other than moving somewhere that it's still a novelty. If there is longboarder who is sitting outside hogging waves or a shortboarder dropping in on people or either one who paddles in front of you to take a wave that was coming to you, you need to politely remind them that they are out of line. If they fail to comply or continue to be disprespectful then they need to be reminded that there will be consequences. I shortboard with a group of mostly older longboarder locals who are more respectful than most of the shortboarders who show up at the beach trying to paddle around and take all the waves. So to stereotype is not really fair. But there definitely is a respect problem in the water in Jersey.

 

and websites and cams that make it easy for beginners living hours from the coast (with no clue how to forecast surf) to pick pretty much the right spot right day.

 

who calls it the belmar inlet??? i grew up there, learned to surf there 14 years ago, and never once heard it called it the "belmar inlet"... the pier, the gay beach, lots of other names, just not belmar inlet that sounds sorta kooky to me... haha

edit: you dont happen to be a young punk kid who was talking trash to a guy from bayhead a few weeks ago are you? i thought that was hilarious, the kid is like 13 yrs old, 110 lbs talking smack to some 35yr old 220lb dude. pretty funny

 

And who the f@ck are you again? I've been bodyboading there on and off since the mid 80's... Do we know each other?

 

I gatta go with captownsurfer here. I dont mind longboarders that can do it with style, but that really is a rare thing. Most loggers just drop in and ride the line, thats it. No walking, and if they do rarely cross stepping. They just kinda cruse. So really all i want to say to longboarders in virginia beach is that if your just gonna cruise, just dont take all the sets. Leave them for the shortboarders that will actually do something on it. SHARE is what im trying to say, most loggers just sit outside and take all the gems and waste them. it pisses me off!

 

I'm just as guilty as the next guy to be caught in the realm that is shortboarding. But you have to remember, we were all kooks at some point. We all fall and all boards turn into torpedos when a rider falls. But what we have to remind ourselves is that we all learned to ride on a longboard. And for the most part, everyone has stepped on a longboard at some point in they're life. I'm not here to point fingers, but I'm here to remind everyone that longboards are not kooks, because if AI were by any chance to walk to your beach and ride a longboard, you would probably go and buy yourself one of the logs too.
