It is looking better than the Atlantic coast. It would take me 2 hours to Naples and 3 hours to Venice from north Miami. Is it worth it or is there a good chance I could end up getting skunked or trying to surf wind blown short period mush? I've never surfed the gulf coast so I'm not sure how the tide or breaks work. Do you surf sand bars or mostly shore breaks?

i would just keep a really close eye on the west florida forecasts as they tend to change depending on the length and strength of the fetch.

most likely it won't be worth it, but you never know. there is a good variety of breaks on the gulf coast being as there are a lot more nooks and crannies compared to the east coast, just not as much swell. forecasts can change quickly over here.

Yes but the forecast down here is also good for that day. I might make the trip to Naples on Friday if the forecast doesn't change. It is flat here through the weekend. I had some fun in the crappy blown out short period stuff we had today.
