So, no Trestles and the only US stop besides the Mecca is the Surf Ranch?
Let's all agree to make 2018 the year WE (anyone with a board and a brain) spend $0 on logo branded surf lifestyle products and streaming the WSL. Also, buy a shape from a shaper on your coast, not out of a box.

Trestles has sucked lately, unless you like Brazilians hucking the same air reverse on every wave. It can be a great wave, but has underperformed. The travesty is the Rio Pro, but with damn near half the WSL being Brazilian, I guess they should have an event.

I'm stoked on adding Bali and the Surf Ranch. I will definitely watch those. Change can be good.

    Trestles...been lame.
    Brazil...totally lame.

I will watch the Ranch out of curiousity however i can see it becoming lame (real quick). Honestly, every wave/ride i've seen ridden from Steph Gilmore to Strider W. to Kelly himself have looked the exact same... where will the point differences come from? Style?

It's going to end up like a gymnastics routine. The surfers will know the timing and the shape so they'll be planning their runs in advance to combine as many tricks and barrels together in a non-stop effort to one up the other guy in the heat.

yeah good point. Like snowboard half pipe with pre-orchestrated runs...which I find totally lame. "let me spin 30 times, ...wait imma spin 31 times"

Lenmore is about 90 miles from the coast. It's going to be a manufactured surf scene... which it is already. Wonder if they're going to put up bleachers. It'll be interesting even if its very contrived. This is the precursor to olympic surfing.

Removing the wave selection element is interesting though for the ranch. I will watch solely out of curiosity, but I can't see 2-3 guys in the pool at the same time competing during a heat... You know exactly when the wave is coming and there are no "sets". So likely one guy scores his wave, wait for pool to settle down, next guy jumps in, hit the button. Rinse. Repeat. Also, are they going to split the contest up for Right breaks and Left breaks?
    So many questions...

what about when you need that wave with 60 seconds to go..and low and behold mother nature provides. ie. Jeremy Flores a couple days ago.

that drama will be removed. lame.

I'll watch the Lemoore event for the novelty of it.

It's a shame there are so few 'mericans on the CT, was def glad to see Gadauskas back on tour so I have someone else to root for.

Anybody that watches WSL (other than big wave tour) is queer.
    No excuses.....

The WSL is a parody of surfing itself. It oozes this faux coolness/hipsterness that it assumes the non-surfing public laps up and thinks "wow this is what surfing is really like, dude." It ticks me off more than it probably should, probably because I'd never surf these waves a fraction as well as the tour guys, but it just seems so 'try hard' and has this totally fake feeling of what surfing is, at least for me. Maybe if I lived in CA I'd feel differently.

A perfect machine wave focuses on a surfer's on-wave surfing skills and nothing more. However, it does remove the element of luck (but one might argue that all surfers are exposed to a somewhat same amount luck throughout a season).

Besides luck, there's much more to surfing than just maneuvers and style...like wave selection, strategy, etc.

The trestles event wasn't that bad...but you'll get over it.

Yeah, something along these lines. It's getting worse and worse too. Their brand just doesn't click with me either....

For one the announcers are AWFUL.

I still watch sometimes when the waves are pumping but if the waves arent preeemo I'm out. It is a way to watch some amazing surfers have a session, you know?

I was just gonna go on a rant about the Brazzos. Then I saw John John has won the last two titles. Shows you how much I watch. or care.

Wee men like Italo and Mason Ho already have gymnast bodies. Being small is way better for rotations and gymnastic like moves.
Most of Felipe’s waves already look choreographed and video gamey.
    It’s all the Brazzos fault.

I'm not too big into the pro circuit like I used to.ever since the wsl took over, the legends are dropping out, waves suck even at the greatest venues.i used to follow all the events, wake up super early for the European events, late for Fiji...I think I probably watched a total of 7 heats this year out of all the events.im only interested in the European leg of the tour and Hawaii these days

Never been interested in surf contests, although I appreciate the abilities of the pro's.

The biggest turn-off for me is that judging is so objective. Very few surfers have existed whose style and maneuvers are so radical and transcendant that their performances regularly stand out above the others.

Throw into the mix that more international surfers are now on the circuit only further dilutes contest results.

It's always been a Good Ol' Boys network, and will continue to be.
