Swell info increasing tomorrow's forecast to 2+ all day in OC now. Pretty confident the swell is going to pass right by though. Surfline is saying Flat and Magic is saying 1 ft. Something is off with the swell info forecast model. I was watching the cams this afternoon when it was supposed to pick up to 1-2 ft to see if there was any hope for tomorrow and nothing but small dribble maybe even smaller by sunset. Hopefully the Friday forecost holds. Thinking of taking a sick day if all three sites line up. NEED TO SURF!
indeed its been cold.and yes theres been a long flat spell.i don't count 2' waves as swell, just a minor break in the spell. I work outdoors too.right now I'm on a job at a power plant that's deep inside the woods working 180' up.luckily theres these huge boilers that u can go stand near for a few minutes to warm up.other than that its pretty wicked out there. iv been surfing in similar conditions after a heavy snow and its 8 degrees out,and its still wicked.its warmer in the ocean.but I'm not young anymore.i don't really mind,if theres a legit swell I'm out there whether rain,snow,hail,warm,cold...doesn't matter.but suiting up for a mediocre session aint happening for me atm
Looks like Swell Info got the OCMD report right this time. I would say 2+ thigh high is about right based on this screen shot. The Surfline report says FLAT. Magic says 1ft. Swell Info looking like the most accurate wave forecasting site for this minor windswell anyway.
It depends on whether the given forecaster is forecasting swell or face size. That picture appears to be 1ft SWELL, 2 foot face. Picky, picky!!! <grin>
I watched a couple guys surfing mid afternoon yesterday in OC. It was knee to thigh, clean lefts. Swell had a lot of north angle, which I'm always into, but it was just short period wind swell wrapping in. I would have suited up and paddled out on as fish if the air temps had been about 20 degrees warmer.
We got maybe up to 10 inches of snow here last night with a bit more on the way before it clears out altogether around noontime. Branches on pine trees loaded with snow and bending to/touching the ground. Temps to remain cold for next several days. In mid 20s now...windy too. Hunkering down today. I haven't paddled out since early Dec. Way too long.
North winds are HOWLING right now... gotta be blowing 35 with gusts well over 40. I'm "working from home"... for now. But the chances of a significant cleanup before dark looks slim to me. Further south will see a wind shift earlier than up here in NoMoCo.
I’m gonna make a strike mission to get down South if the winds and snow let up. Outlook right is looking rough though.
We have this nor'easter thing going here. TV stations are saying we are all going to die. Resistance is useless, they say. Surrender to the weather, to not fight it......just lay down outside and allow freezing to take over.......sigh.......where da hell do we get these idiots??
From the liberal universities that are plaguing this country with each moron that they program for failure.
Agreed it's not looking good for later right now. Suspect I'm gonna need to factor in some time between end of heavy snow and dark to shovel my car out too, just to get down there and check it. Wind has really picked up here (ocean twp) in the last half hour too.
It almost looks like its gonna be a 'NJ night surfing session' like we used to get a lot of like 10yrs ago... we would get these storms- west wind would start to howl around 5pm... next morning its knee high... missing the swell... tomorrow looks like it could be waist high plus, but freezing!
It's pretty darn bad out there. I had to work today..... worked till about noon and then got sent home. But I'm on call... So if anything comes in i gotta go. Hard to tell just how much snow we got so far due to the wind and snow drifts. My driveway was a good foot deep though so far. With the plows and what not, side of the roads are thigh to belly high. The snow isn't the issue though. Its that damn wind. Driving in the work truck got pretty damn sketchy. I live on the south shore in central LI, work mostly on the north shore to the west. Its more hilly windey and tree-ey over there. At times i couldn't see more than a few feet in front of me. Still got another 12 or so hours of this. Hopefully the plows get the job done over night so tomorrows work day won't be so terrible driving wise. As far as waves go.....i don't think it's happening here. Buoy is over 16ft at 7 seconds. Winds getting close to 50 mph...props to anyone who gets out in the NY/NJ area. Props to anyone south too.... But sounds like you guys have a bit more manageable conditions right now
You should go out. Be a man, sack up!! Grow a pair!! "When I was your age"......we did go out!! It wasn't smart, but we did go. Barry did go!!
