Considering it's just going to be a recreational gun, I was looking at an ATI Tactical Omni Hybrid Maxx. I guess a lot of people have shied away because it has poly, but I have seen a sheet ton of positive reviews AND the company offers a limited lifetime warranty. The price is right, too. Maybe later i'll upgrade to something a little better quality, but for now I think might be an okay AR.
I've had both a component system and one standard. each had have +/- but both were are crap ton of fun to shoot. Super accurate + no kick = lots of on target rounds!
Considering it’s my first AR, I went with this https://diamondbackfirearms.com/col...ducts/diamondback-db15ccb?variant=29811046348
Build your own lower and buy a prebuilt upper, preferably one that comes with a BCG, and that has been headspaced. Chrome lined, cold hammer forged (CHF) barrels are tits. AeroPrecision makes very good uppers and barrels, pre-assembled and they have good sales. Uppers take specialized tools like an armorer's wrench and go/no go gauges. A lower can be put together with set of channel locks and a screwdriver and you'll most likely end up upgrading parts on the lower anyway. Mill your own lower or buy an Anderson stripped lower for 50$, a cheap lower parts kit for 20$, a decent trigger for 99$ (LaRue or Geissele), a raptor (radian or axts, whatever they are calling themselves these days) ambi charging handle, and if you ride goofy get an ambi safety selector too. Carbine (14-16" barrel) or rifle (18-20") length buffer tube kit is about 50$. Pistol length buffer kits cost more. Kinda like lady's lingerie. Pay a lot for less material, go figure. You'll end up with an excellent rifle with sub MOA accuracy for about $600 that would have cost you over $1000 to buy. Watch out though, things are fun to build. Whatever you do, dont build a .308. Unless you hate money that is.
