what are some of the rules of thumb as far as maintaining your surf board in good condition. how often do you strip wax and re-apply.
maintaining a board First thing is to keep it out of the sun when you are not using it. Get yourself a board bag and use it when transporting and carrying your board to and from the beach. As far as removing the wax, that depends on where you surf. The big thing with wax is to have the correct wax on the board for the water temp where you are surfing. Match the wax to the water temp. Other than that, if it is getting so thick that it is making the board too heavy and unresponsive....strip it.
One more thing Oh yeah, If you do happen to ding your board, get it out of the water and don't use it again until it has been repaired. You don't want to get water in the foam.
I agree with the above. I have something to add. After use rinse the board off with fresh water. Dry it off and keep it in a board bag or sock. I somtimes use that wax remover stuff on teh bottom and the top of the board after I strip the wax off to get off any residue. If you dont plan in using a certian board very often keep it wax free when not using it. If you keep wax on it and keep it in a shed or someplace hot in the summer it could stain it or dull clear coats.
Good info. thanks alot guys. good information there. i always rinse my wet suit, now ill rinse the board too. maybe get a "sock" for it too. ill look into my wax situation as well. ive been surfing deeper water, so no dings...yeah thanks again. id get bashed in the west florida surf forum. so i snuck over here......lol
Dings Most dings that my boards have taken have been when I'm carrying them in and out of my condo, or slipped out of my hand and landed on a rock, things like that. Rarely have I dinged a board while actually surfing. That's why I suggest bagging your boards when transporting to and from the beach.
