Yawl young folk (obviously not you Old Man Cuda) talking about camping? Screw that - smitty will be at the "hotel motel holiday inn" (please sing that part while reading) with Cuda.
Wait till August at the earliest if you can. I have a home in Cape Breton and make the drive from seacoast NH every summer for 2-3 weeks. There's waves on the east side of CB, but the real wave zone is down near Halifax. From there, you can drive south towards Yarmouth and see some of the most amazing undeveloped coastlines with wave potential around every bend. If you take the ferry, you'll be in Yarmouth, which is still a few hours from Halifax. Check out White Point Beach Resort, near Liverpool. Outstanding accommodations, consistent surf, and beach front cabins w/ wood fireplaces that you can stay at. Plenty of camping around there too. Surfed there in late July and was unprepared for how cold the water temp was; needed booties and 4/3. Also went there in September, and trunked it. Gulf Stream... But if you make it up to Cape Breton, the Cabot Trail and Highlands is a must see/bucket list. Frankie the Weatherman loves poutine
Very good info. Thanks. Out of curiosity, how is the camping up there? Like i mentioned I'd like to get up there for a real swell. Which would mean basically a last minute trip. Can you just pull up and camp or is it like a state park where you need to make reservations? Hadn't thought about this trip in awhile but this thread relit that fire for me to go. Trying to get as much relevant info so when the time comes i can look back on this thread. Barry, if i go and decide not to camp.... will you join me? We can get one of those nice cabins with wood fireplaces.
My friends and I did a road trip from ACNJ to Nova Scotia in sept '13. Stopped in Portland ME (one night stay), Acadia Park (2 nights camping) drove to Halifax and stayed 3 nights in Dartmouth. Cheaper than Halifax and a short ferry across can get you there in a few minutes. Surfed a few different well known spots and was greeted very kindly by all the locals. Surf was chest to head and fun for a day due to small tropical storm, water was 56. Drove up to Meat Cove in Cape Breton and camped for 2 nights. Didnt surf. Hiked and explored. Beautiful. Back down to Dartmouth for a few days and caught minimal surf. Back to Portland for a night then Boston. Saw FLAG at Paradise Rock Club. Mayhem. No arrests, no injuries. Epic road trip
dont have a dui or anything on your record even misdemeanors canadian governemnt are kooks they will not let you come in to the country with unpaid traffic tickets. i am not even joking about that. south park had it right bomb canada
I am not that kind of a guy!! And besides, I keep promising my wife I will take her there some day. So you are way back on the list, if at all!! But gee, thanks for asking......
Friendliest locals I've ever surfed with anywhere in the world. And the getting into Canada littlerhody described ain't no joke!! I was more worried about that than getting into Morocco or some other hole-in-the-wall African country that requires a visa. If you have any "real problems" here in the US don't even try. We were also traveling with a big dog which really sketched me out. They gave us a little hard time but nothing like the horror stories I've been told.
Beast Lips is the best new SI name I've seen in awhile. I love it but what the hell does that even mean?
Great place for a surf trip. Time it to see the tidal bore in Moncton NB on the way up unless you take the Portland to Yarmouth Ferry. Lots of good spots in the Lawrencetown Area on the eastern shore and great camping at nearby Porters Lake Provincial Park. Motels are few but some B&Bs around. Shop at Happy Dudes Surf Emporeum. Can’t go wrong ordering the fish chowder for every restaurant meal.
Hard to get in to Canada?? What?? Are you kidding?? It's a walk-in!! But then again, I always bring my secret weapon....my wife......who both looks and sounds like Sophie Marceau (the young queen in Braveheart).....the border guards turn into puddles.
Dude I'm serious. I know quite a few people who have to cross the border for working purposes who get detained at the border for hours at a time or even flat out rejected for no real reason. Just Google Canada border horror stories, grab a beer and have a good time. I like to think my wife is hot too but she's only good at getting drinks quicker at a bar.
It's not just about being hot...my wife is, French-canadian, french accent and all, and she gets a free pass at all Canadian borders. We NEVER have trouble. On the other hand, returning from Canada, the American Custom agents are a bunch of first class assholes, usually, but not always.
you obviously never been there. Canada is extremely strict on everything. look it up online people with misdemeanors in the USA get turned away all the time called criminally inadmissible. anyways canada sucks anyhow so not sure why anyone would go there and deal with the shitty beer and fat women. strange brew only good thing to come out of there
I see plenty of fat women everywhere i go. I'd rather surf something like this wave below and drink a lousy Molson Brador afterwards than surf some spot around here and have better post-surf beer options.
Ya moron, we go at least 2x a year for the past 45 years. Sometimes even more. My wife was born there, and has an extensive family, and friends, whom we occasionally visit. We are NEVER stopped going into Canada, because of her. The very last thing Canada is, is strict. We are almost ALWAYS put through inquisition returning, because of me. As for fat women...in French-Canada?....are you nuts?? I wish the USA would not let misdemeanors in--then you would be put in the slammer!!!!hahahahaha!!!!! Along with the rest of the morons...hahahaha!!!
Who drinks Molson in Canada?? Answer: Nobody. Labatts is way better. The French side of Canada is a billion times better than the English/Scottish side for food and drinks. Of course, they have no surf.
